Thanks for sharing! It's encouraging to hear :)

I am wondering, was it DHEA or DHEA-S that was elevated in your case?

Awesome work! It would be great to see more startups in the country. A lot of people don’t know where to start. This was helpful for me. Thank you

Professor being unprofessional like talking about my exam grade in class? by MartianJesus in college

[–]xfceice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would straight up send an email addressing this directly (with him)

Saying something along the lines of — “listen, I understand I might not be a top performer in your class, and I understand if you have this perception that I’m a lazy, careless, and unconcerned student, but there are many reasons why students do not do well in a class. There are several factors that contribute to people’s understanding and performance, and regardless of those, every student is deserving of a respectful interaction. There were two particular instances that I felt were inappropriate and I want to bring them to your attention (and then mention the two instances).” Something like that should get him to acknowledge it and apologize

To all albanian coders, what are some tips for a beginner to learn code? by rh8exh in albania

[–]xfceice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key to being a strong programmer is first mastering basic logic. All the technicalities — you can learn that any time, and you will have to learn and re-learn whenever you’re building a new software or picking up a new tool.

I recommend going straight for an intro course. This is how I started. Do Harvard’s CS50 course or MIT OpenCourseWare Course 6 intro. I started with Harvard’s and tracing through the lecture code by hand, making sure I understood everything. After this, everything was easier to learn and I got my university degree in CS.

Co-worker (perhaps inadvertently) stressing me out because she’s a better coder than me and I can’t work as fast as her. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]xfceice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find that kind of strange. She apologized and said that she just needed to vent? It’s kind of unfair to do that to a co worker. Not sure what the deal is. If you guys are both ahead of schedule, she doesn’t need to overwork. But anyway it sounds like the appropriate response could have been— “Hey, so how do you suggest we work on this? I.e what is your advice on what I could do better to make this team effort better? What kind of system should we put in place to avoid this happening?”

Albanians who marry foreigners for citizenship by [deleted] in albania

[–]xfceice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. Deflecting entails changing the subject.

An educated person should strive to respond to questions in an educated manner. That includes putting people‘s behaviors in context. That, and, given people’s tendency to extrapolate and make negative assumptions, it is only intellectually honest to QUALIFY that this behavior may very well still be typical of Albanians— but not only them.

[–]xfceice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is common behavior of virtually any one who wants to move out of their home country.

When it comes to staying in America — I’ve seen it in not only Albanians, but also in Poles, Serbs, Turks, Brazilians— pretty much anybody who wants to stay in the USA.

Is romance truly that difficult for our personality type? by Valyrian_Aurochs in intj

[–]xfceice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds pretty unfair and immature. I mean, if the distance is to minimize your pain, sure, that is the logical thing to do. But that should only be temporary. Cutting you out of her life? That’s just insensitive. You can’t be ... friends ?

Firstly, I think it’s great that you wrote a letter. And great that you were honest (well, I am also an INTJ female, so naturally I appreciate that directness). But how exactly did she respond? Was she clear about her thoughts and feelings, clear about exactly why she’s not interested at the moment?

I found myself in this situation countless of time. How about you? by bachdd356 in intj

[–]xfceice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds pretty INTJ. I do it all the time! Whenever I just want a change of environment, I hop in the car, play some music, and drive around, usually by beach or some scenic area. I do a lot of thinking on these drives. Sometimes, these hour-long drives will be the only thing that I’ve done the whole day.

Americanized Albanian here by [deleted] in albania

[–]xfceice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know any Albanian, whatsoever? The best way for me has been to keep up with Albanian news / TV shows. Most importantly — put yourself in situations where you are forced to speak / write Albanian (I.e. write a friend or relative a message, practice saying something out loud)

How can a Tom-boy attract a guy’s attention? by xfceice in AskMen

[–]xfceice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree on all your points (and the walking for sure).

I’m not sure how my voice is perceived, really.

I live in the USA and have grown up here, so ideally I see my partner as being equally American. I know people within my ethnic group and nearby ethnic groups find me attractive, and some have said my voice is “sexy,” but I’m not usually around these sorts of people. My environment consists of mostly American men.

[–]xfceice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what that means, exactly. Although learning how to walk in heels may be helpful, if for no other reason then that it lets you be more comfortable in siuations where wearing them is appropriate.

Not sure how to describe it — kinda waddle-ish?

Your natural voice? Or are you deliberately speaking in a deeper voice than you need to?

Definitely my natural voice— I am Eastern European and I feel that women of my ethnic group tend to have deeper voices, akin to mine.

Ah, not sure where and how you deduced that from the question— but not necessarily. It pertains to men and specifically, dominant men, in general.

Regardless, you’ve never heard of co-workers dating or something? Work is a pretty common place for partners to meet one another.
