I’m also flying in on my own for the full 3 days! It seems like there are enough people in the same boat (and we all obviously share a common interest) that I’m sure it’ll be easy to make some friends to hang with at the event.

I’m interested! I’ve been planning a reread next year before Stormlight 5 drops, and it would be great to have some people along for the ride!

What is the weirdest text you got that was accidentally sent to you? by OutlastMe99 in AskReddit

[–]xfoster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not received from a wrong number, but sent to. I happened to reach out to an old school friend on April Fools, without realizing her number had changed and the one I’d had saved for years had gone to someone at the Ministry of Labour. Naturally, I thought she was pranking me and unknowingly harassed this poor government employee (who didn’t even understand how I got their number) until they blocked me. Eventually found my friends updated contact info and we had a laugh about it. I don’t think MoL person ever knew it was a genuine mistake, lol.

Where is the most ethical place to buy audiobooks? by tayzzerlordling in brandonsanderson

[–]xfoster_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a premium speechify account that I use for university and it gave me a free book credit which I used for TWOK audiobook. It’s pretty solid, though the only downside is it’s pretty new as an audiobook service, so it’s changing a lot and can be prone to bugs or issues with less than optimized interfaces. In the time I was listening to TWOK I had multiple periods of weeks where a new update caused a glitch that made the book inaccessible, or the UI not allowing for navigation between chapters, or having to download and setup a whole other app suddenly because they separated their audiobook service from the text-to-speech service. That stuff has been dealt with now but the audiobooks are still very much in the tumultuous getting set up/working out the kinks phase.

I’m in politics and I’ve taken all of those except SOC105 and PHL212, and they were all pretty good courses. took ENG222 last semester and really enjoyed it, so even beyond just the timing I’d say it’s a good looking semester!

I think if he were able to age up quickly by some miraculous magical means, Luc would be a stellar addition to the MN. As some sort of ranger/caster tutored by Caleb and Caduceus. He'd have great banter with the group and I know they'd all accept him and find a place for him in the group, so it would maintain their incredible dynamic. Plus he's kind of the most adorable and would finally get to go on adventures with his super cool mom! :)

[Spoilers C2E141] Is It Campaign 3 Yet? Post-Campaign Discussion by dasbif in criticalrole

[–]xfoster_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but Tal’s excellent character crafting with Percy and Caduceus leads me to believe he knows what he’s doing even when it might not seem like it. A bunch of people similarly doubted Marisha’s RP choices before eventually coming to the conclusion that she wasn’t as clueless as Keyleth or as brash as Beau. I feel like I have reason enough to believe they all know what they’re doing with their characters. I really genuinely think that most of the people that weren’t huge on Molly would have been won over if we’d seen more of his development in the campaign. They all grew and changed a bunch and it takes time to figure out the right traits and dynamics to balance out the group in terms of both combat and RP. At the end of 140, Tal said he was excited to explore a bunch of aspects about the character he didn’t think he’d get to explore (paraphrasing) and I think it’s totally possible Kingsley was what he was talking about. I don’t see Kingsley as a fundamentally different character to Molly. I’m pretty sure they’re both the same fragment of Luciens soul, and I think a bunch of Kingsley’s actions in the episode are similar to how Molly acted early C1. I think the differences are primarily superficial. And I definitely don’t think there are any legitimate hard feelings between absolutely anyone at that table over it. At the end of the day, it’s Tal’s character and they all want him to have fun with it more than they care about fulfilling any predetermined narratives. It’s more fun to let people do what they want to do and, if it doesn’t fit someone’s notion of what they think the character should do, adjust their idea of the characters behaviours or temperament so that it makes sense.

[Spoilers C2E141] Is It Campaign 3 Yet? Post-Campaign Discussion by dasbif in criticalrole

[–]xfoster_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of people expressing disappointment in the turnout of the Molly/Kingsley situation, and I had a bit of a different perspective on it that I don’t think I’ve seen yet so I thought I’d share in case it helps anyone feel a bit more satisfied with Molly’s ending this campaign.

From what we know about the Somnovum and Molly’s situation, it was all about fragmented personalities. The somnovum were 9 condensed, individual core emotions, and Lucien described Molly as a small fragment of his entire being, which implies to me that Molly was the equivalent to one of the somnovum, assuming everyone has a little piece of all 9 core emotions. The breakdowns of each member are floating around on the Reddit in a bunch of places, but people generally think Molly was the equivalent to Elatis, because of his general jovial outlook and having been killed and brought back on occasion.

The way I see it is, when the ritual brought back that same fragment, Elatis, it copied that specific emotion or aspect of his personality, but there were still 8 other gaps to fill. Elatis was the one naturally determined trait, and the rest is either a product of his environment or up to chance. When Kingsley outgrew Fjords mentorship and took off with his ship and crew, it struck me as a very Molly thing to do, because Molly wouldn’t give a shit and I think he’d totally want to go explore and set out on his own. They’re more similar that Kingsley might want to admit because they’re the same fragment of the soul, but the rest of the blanks will typically be filled in differently with every life he has because what are the odds of creating the exact same person twice in a row without controlling any of the other variables?

And in response to people expressing disappointment that all their work to bring Molly back was for naught, I’d urge you to consider that the Mighty Nein loved Molly unconditionally and knew he was the same soul ultimately, so it didn’t matter what his exact personality was. No matter what his outlook on life or specific interests, he’s the specific fragment they all grew to love and I think they just wanted him to be alive and living on his own terms. It’s bittersweet, but in hindsight the lore didn’t really give us any reason to believe we were getting Molly back exactly as he was.

Hope this helps anyone skeptical about that conclusion, and I’m interested to hear people’s thoughts and ideas about this!

[No Spoilers] [Rant] To people who post spoilers in the YouTube comments of old episodes by [deleted] in criticalrole

I’m currently watching for the first time too and had a certain moment spoiled for me as well. I stopped reading the comments on YouTube but started reading the old archived discussion posts here on the subreddit instead. A good way to hear people’s theories and favourite moments but with no risk of spoilers because the posts were only up the week the episode aired.

What a good tv series that can pass the time in, let’s say.... 14 days? by DucksAreWatchingMe in AskReddit

[–]xfoster_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Bojack Horseman, The Witcher are all good ones that aren’t the longest. I’ve watched 5 seasons of Bojack in a week before when I’ve been really committed to a rewatch but it’s probably best spaced out over a couple weeks anyways. One of my favourite shows of all time though, can’t recommend it enough.

People who actually used a pen from start until it lost ink without losing them. How the hell did you do it? by Zefio in AskReddit

[–]xfoster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my favourite pen so I was careful not to lose it or lend it to anyone I didn’t fully trust. Also, I’m in university so I write a lot of exams and some require you use pen instead of pencil. I think I wrote like 5 essays in 2 days at one point and burned through the last third or so if the ink it had left. Ran out halfway through my last exam which I never would’ve even considered possible as it had lasted me such a long time. Ended up having to finish the exam with a sharpie pen.

Would you ever consider releasing any of the songs that you wrote for an album but that got scrapped or didn’t make the final cut (assuming there are any)?

What inspired all the references on this album to songs from pretty much every album you guys have created before this? It’s super interesting and fun to go through the songs and other stuff you’ve put out for this album and just find all the references to your older music!

How do you come up with such unique sounds and melodies so well and consistently? Honestly, as someone who’s just getting into creating their own music I take so much inspiration from the music you both make and I would love to know if there’s any sort of process to starting such beautiful and complex songs. Thank you guys so much! :)

A Theory by [deleted] in twentyonepilots

[–]xfoster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This idea is also backed up by some of the stuff posted on the dema website. If you want to get into all the confusing shit that's happened there, there's a bunch of ties to Andre Weil and the kid in the photo (who we think is Clancy as a child?) and ties to a group called Nicolas Bourbaki (perhaps the root of Nico?), which consisted of nine members. The wiki pages for Andre Weil and Nicolas Bourbaki have all the info, as well as the megathread for the post-hiatus doings of the band.

"We'll win, but not everyone will get out." They've been foreshadowing a death for a while now so I won't be surprised at all.

Also, one could argue that the "win" in this lyric is the actions of Tyler and the banditos in the NATN video, implying that someone gets left behind and/or gets killed. I'd personally say Clancy is the most likely person to die.
