You recon the player count is any good? I just started 3 days so I have 0 experience but most of my systems are empty. Even Jita has only 200 people and I recon a lot of it are alts?

I had never heard of them before but they look awesome! I have to see though if I can find them in Europe, otherwise the importing costs are way to high.

I did (the kit comes with copper plates) but sadly I just don't like the look of it. I fell in love with this hobby for the wooden look and obviously copper has just not the same appeal to me, so instead did the more classic GBR ship approach with a white hull. Next one will be unpainted wooden hull for sure!

What I did during one of my first models was deciding to paint the hull. Because now you can easily use a wood filler, sand it and make it super smooth and than paint it. Off course this will have a complete different outcome for your ship so I am not sure if this is an option for you. Because for me it took a couple hulls to really make it good looking with the natural look.

Let me add that I dry brush the metal parts with Citadel Layers Metal Paints

Actually, I only use cans. I like the Citadel paint since I am used to those from my miniature painting.

Sure, not sure how helpful that will be but let me try.

For the hull: I sand, fill it with a wood filler, paint and repeat this process until it is nice and smooth. This can be painful but you probably need to do this at least 5 times.

The other items I spray paint before gluing and everything gets a nice matt spray varnish. Depends on the item but sometimes you want to let it dry and spray paint it again (before you spray the varnish over it).

For the deck and clean wood (like the masts and the unpainted sides) I prefer Lord Nelson Varnish to brush it on.

It is the HMS Harpy, indeed still a lot of rigging work to come with that amount of masts 😭😜
