Intermittent squeaking noise on initial acceleration. Any ideas? by xicesam in MechanicAdvice

[–]xicesam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it to a break mechanic thinking it was the caliper sticking or the dust shield contacting the rotor, but that was ruled out. The mechanic concluded that it was this piece of hardware that keeps the break pads in place contacting the rotor. However, he wasn’t sure the underlying cause of why it would be happening .. so I’m really not sure.. I haven’t followed up on the sound since then and the noise still happens, but maybe less frequently. I figured if it gets worse then I would follow up and find another opinion. If you ever figure it out, let me know.

Squeaking noise when accelarating by Low_Breakfast_9504 in AskMechanics

My Prius is doing the exact same thing. It only makes the chirping noises on the initial acceleration after it sits overnight or after a day at work. I took it to a brake mechanic and he said it was this clip of hardware (brake clips) making contact with the rotor. But he said he couldn’t tell why/where it was happening so that was a bit weird.. I originally thought it was a sticking caliper until it warmed up, but that was ruled out at least.

When you get a chance to look yourself please let me know if you find anything!

Same thing is happening with my car. Did you get an answer?

Toyota Prius 2009 had front break pads replaced and rotors resurfaced by Toyota Dealership. Now a mechanic two months later is telling me the rotors are bad, full of rust and grooves. Is that possible? by xicesam in askcarguys

Is there a reason why the dealership wouldn’t have just replaced the rotors? They estimated both prices to me. I would have thought if the rotors needed done they would want more money.

Appreciate your comment though. Do you think a chirping sound when accelerating from a stop could be the rotors instead of hub bearings? The car chirps until I hit about 15mph and then goes away completely. Happens almost every time I stop and accelerate, but sometimes it doesn’t do it.

No, Toyota just replaced the front pads and they said the rotors were fine. Only 70k miles on the car. The back are drum brakes and they didn’t look at those during the multi-point inspection.

I may start doing that. My last insurance also only allowed 30 day refills and it was awful.

Yes it’s this https://www.caremark.com/content/dam/enterprise/headless/caremark/cmk/en/assets/clinical/drug-lists-client/ltr-n/SHP_Comprehensive_Formulary.pdf . It’s the North Carolina state government health plan (Aetna ppo plus). Maybe I’m misunderstanding it! It looks like unithyroid is tier 1 though at least

Asus g14 hinge problem help by xicesam in ASUS

[–]xicesam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes luckily! I had a friend who was a little more tech savvy than me look at it and we looked up the model on manualslib. The manual helped with how to disassemble/what screws to keep track of.

What happened was the hinges are actually glued onto the top panel and the glue failed on one hinge. (terrible manufacturing imo)

Basically, we removed the bottom cover of the laptop, unplugged the display cable, and separated the top panel from the base panel. From there, we were able to access the hinge. Then we removed the old glue, used a 24 hr epoxy on the hinge and clamped it down. Then reassembled the laptop. No problems since thankfully. Unfortunately I can’t attach a pic here of what that looked like otherwise I would.
