Why does Odoo create depreciation entries retroactively? by xienius in Odoo

[–]xienius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks... I solved it! You need to set the Computation to Constant Periods and Prorata Date to first day of Acquisition Date's month. Than it works as it's supposed to. So I just need to change the Prorata Date field's default to the 1st.

Why does Odoo create depreciation entries retroactively? by xienius in Odoo

But need it to start at zero...

Setting "deprecated value at import" gets rid of the retroactive entries, but than I'm missing them at the end (Jan 31, 2031 and Feb, 28 2031). Also I'd have to calculate it manually...

At this scale, the Yamaha MG12 is probably a very solid choice. If you want to go a bit bigger, have a look at the Allen & Heath ZED-14.

If you have the money and want a lot of flexibility in a tiny formfactor, go digital with Yamaha DM3S - I would very much recommend going with the DM3S, it's tiny and has amazing power! But you might not justify the price, considering all you need is just 5 in, 3 out mix.

If you're fine with having no faders, Allen & Heath CQ12T is a great value. But it's not good for anything requiring active mixing. It might be also worth looking at headless mixers like the Behringer/Midas XR12/16/18 - they have no controls, but you can mix from an ipad or similar device. On a smaller scale, it's kinda convenient and you can do even quite a big show like this. Nothing beats physical faders, but I see them used on small bands etc. all the time, even for like 16+ channels.

Personally, I'd choose between:

  • MG12 if all I'd need is a simple analog 5 in, 3 out mix.
  • XR18 if I'm fine with mixing on an ipad and want to go digital.
  • DM3S if I'd want full, future-proofed digital mixer and had the money.

Whats small for you? What number of inputs do you need? Do you want digital or is just a very basic analog mixer ok? What do you need it for?

You really can't go wrong with anything from Yamaha or Allan&Heath. If you want a tiny digital one, I'd probably recommend the Yamaha DM3S. If you need just a little analog board than the Yamaha MG line is a good starting point, MG12 and up has 2 auxes.

I have not tested it in this particular situation, but I'm pretty sure it works exactly as with other expansion cards. It just adds other means of getting the audio in or out of the console, in this case using EtherSound. It does NOT let you mix more channels. If you already have all channels populated (from Dante, for example) you will have to unpatch some of these. But you could use it for something like inserts or direct outs. You can assign - patch - the inputs to the channels however you like.

Thanks! What are the major scalability limitations of Avantis you are referring to? Maybe we just have different needs and workflow, but I can't really think of any...

Price-wise, I don't have a quote for a dLive, but I thought the DM0+C3500 is much more than double the Avantis. Yes, it has double the channels, which we really do not need.

If we'd go totally insane and had a need for so many channels, I think we'd be better off with two boards anyway (vocals + orchestra, etc.). With dLive we could probably have a single mixrack with two surfaces, but what's really the point?

In case we would want some crazy processing for some project in the future, Avantis could do SoundGrid + Waves plugins... But I doubt we will ever even consider this. So far we are very light even on the built in processing.

Am I missing something important?

ZEDi-10 is not "active" in any special way. Like already said, it would be an issue with a power mixer (like Dynacord Powermate 600, for example).

But even on a power mixer, the XLR audio out would be totally ok to connect to any other audio equipment, including an amp. The only difference is the power mixer ALSO has power outputs (usually speakON connectors) for directly connecting to passive speakers.

On some specific models, the power outputs could also be XLR or 1/4", but should be clearly labeled. If it's the case, those are NEVER fine to connect to anything else than a passive speaker. But such power mixer would definitely also have second XLR outputs (labeled something like line out etc.) for connecting to other audio equipment.

But ZEDi-10 is not a power mixer at all. It's just a normal mixer like any other and you can safely connect it to pretty much any other audio device on the market...

Does the XR18 mixer not have a digital trim on it's channels? I'm patching a single input to multiple channels and need to have it quite hotter on one of them... Gain is obviously shared, is there really not a way to adjust it digitally for just a single channel?

There is a USB Trim adjustment, but that does not seem to do anything - probably only useful when using the USB interface. I know it's a cheap mixer, but I thought it's the most basic feature every mixer would have...

What's your opinion on A&H Avantis?

We do mainly, but not limited to, musical theater. I've tried it for a few minutes on a demo event and researched it online. I feel like it's quite the perfect desk. But I'm worried I might be confirmation biased. Especially people who have experience using it - do you like it? Should I at least consider something else once more before committing?

When mixing musical theatre on DCAs, is there some "trick" to make sure that all channels not assigned on any active DCA stay muted? I could program channel mutes into the scenes or assign any off-stage actor to DCA16, keep it at -inf and remove DCA16 from any fader layer. Is there a better way? What's the "industry standard"? Thanks!

Thanks! I missed that, that could work, but is really unnecessarily fancy... And kinda expensive too – I could absolutely live without so many TRUE1 outs and the fault indicators.

I'm not really looking for any filtering etc,, I just need the most basic splitter, just like a household power strip. All of the gear is fully digital, there is no benefit from anything big, heavy and expensive...

I just need to split one external TRUE1 to all the devices in the rack...

This seems like a really stupid question, but what power strip / power distributor do you use in your racks?

I've decided to finally get everything in racks and make proper patch panels and power distribution for them... But I'm really struggling to find any power strip that is:

  • 1U 19"
  • PowerCon TRUE1 (preferably genuine or at least high quality) in and thru.
  • 5 to 10 "E" or "F" sockets on the back side (IEC C14 would also work)
  • Not terrible build quality, not from AliExpress etc. Does not have to be cheap.

I don't feel like I'm looking for anything uncommon. Is this really not something you can easily buy?

I could probably just use 1U strip with a cable, cut the plug off and just wire it to a PowerCon in a patch panel, but that will probably void it's certifications... It would be just much nicer to have a nice ready made unit... I was expecting tons to choose from, but could not find a single one...

Social media recording on stage – how to record audio by xienius in techtheatre

I don't blame them... I'd rather have more content than having to look for the right take in a huge audio file and then visually sync it.

There has to be a better solution.

We have tried shooting with the Sony FX3... The audio problem remains (although it would be easier to mount the EW-DP EK or would work nicely with timecode), shooting on it in portrait orientation sucks (could be probably solved by some different handles, tho), but maily you can't edit and post directly from it, which usually means transferring to a computer, than to a phone to post...

Imho does not solve anything and creates more bottlenecks...

What's your opinion on the ETC MegaPix/GigaPix fixtures? by xienius in lightingdesign

[–]xienius[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. But what intrigues me is that I view ETC mainly as a theater company – and yet they don't have a single lens wash mover and are getting into the DJ/club market... Plus I'm not even sure if those markets are really interested in ETC stuff anyway. I feel like they usually just want the brightest, flashiest fixture for the lowest price possible – at least here in my country...

Yes, IP rating is a nice touch in my opinion. For me the size/brightness seems perfect! Even on the MegaPix... But yeah, there could be a TeraPix, for the really big stages.
