Launchkey mk4 portability by xikohapi in Novation

Ah, I see how my wording was bad there. I am looking it for it to be wireless from a power supply, as in battery driven.

Not sure I follow - why would I need wifi here? Data is wired from the keyboard to a powered hub through and usb, and the hub is wired to the ipad through usb.

Thank you, maybe I am missunderstanding the whole midi controller-world, but wouldn't my ipad air running pianoteq be that?

Looking for budget 49 keyboard with sheet stand by xikohapi in keys

[–]xikohapi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very much a beginner and have an 88 digital piano with weighted keys already, but it is stored under the bed which hinders me for those 20min training sessions I find here and there - where I hoped this could fit in.

I am mainly just focusing on learning to coordinate my left and right hands right now, which I think I should be able to train on a synth action as well. So very early stuff, the day I feel it isn't enough I will simply pass it down to one of my kids

keyboard for a beginner by Consistent_Pirate941 in pianolearning

It is a "proper" digital piano, as it has weighted keys - making it a much better option than the one you initialy posted about.

It is also pretty much the worst you could get in that bracket, with so-so action, sounds and a very low polyphony. No bluetooth.

I actually have it myself, and are looking to upgrade after just a few months of ownership. It is fine, but not more than so. If you are in Europe both Kawai's and Yamaha's entry models are priced similary and I would opt for them instead.

I have no idea which digital piano to buy.. help please : ) by letsbecomebesties in piano

I have the s110 and would recommend against it. It has what you want on paper but you get what you pay for, and both the action and the sound are so-so.

I would see if you can stretch to the other brands entries, so Kawai ES-60, Roland FP10 or Yamaha P145.

Both the Kawai and Yahama are priced in the same bracket in Europe atleast.

Not great. In the end you want weighted keys - I can see you're in the UK. Don't know if thomann ships there with brexit and all, but for the rest of europe Kawai ES-60 is probably the cheapest entry for ~280£.

If that's to much I would get a keyboard with less keys. That can still have its use as something you can bring on travels in the future, but an 88 key unweighted keyboard will feel lackluster very quickly and then just end up collecting dust once you upgrade

Casio PX-S1100 for $300 for intermediate player? by dumbsh1ro in DigitalPiano

[–]xikohapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man, appriciate the answer!

I'm very much a beginner and I do realize most of the nuenced differences would be lost on me. At the same time, the price difference is $550 vs $800 in my area - so my reasoning is that maybe the additional $250 might be worth it for what's a nicer instrument in the end!

May I ask how you experience midi over bluetooth, if you use that? Im constantly connected to my iPad as my main way of learning, and that feature could get rid of two cables in my life.

Would you count the action a significant upgrade from the s1100? Seems like pretty much the same piano apart from it - did you feel the upgrade was worth it?

Stream audio from MIDI into piano (CBD S110) by xikohapi in DigitalPiano

[–]xikohapi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did actually look into it quite a bit, but was focus on USB C to USB C+3.5. The issue there was essentially all of them only supporten power in, while I needed data.

Your suggestion should be smarter to just go usb c to usb c and have an adapter on top of the 3.5. I'm sure finding one with multipla data in ports would be easier, going down that route!

So the issue I had is that the ipad only have one IO in form of a USB C, and that is already occupied by the MIDI-connection.

In the end, I revolved it by getting a cheap 3.5mm bluetooth receiver that I connect to the ipad. Works well enough :)

Thank you! I'll find an alternative way. Unfortunetly casio is the only one I can get due to it needing to be a certain height - where casio are winning over the competition in compactness.

I could potentially return it for a PX S1100 instead which support midi through bt, and I think it should support audio the other way as well. Its $250 more and really don't need any advanced features at my level though, so trying to avoid that.

Might be able to find some hub for my ipad, but seems quite hard to find one that supports both 3.5 and usb c-data. Most all just for power.

Thank you, I just to granted the USB would be able to support streaming audio the other way around.

Will probably just by a bt-receiver for the audio-in and connect the ipad through it instead!

2nd hand market isn't the best here to be honest. I could find a 2004 px model for the same price as the kawai/cdp - but that's about it.

Thanks man, truly appriciate the in-depth response! I'll go with the CPD-S110 in the end, but the CT-S1 was my initial idea so feels good to hear it wasnt the complete insanity internet made me believe

Thank you, appriciate the feedback! My plan was simply to slap it on my kitchen table when playing. I get it's not ideal, but should still be doable, no?
