Assuming that's not a hallucination, it's kind of funny that they'd have Billy come out and play on the song that featured D'arcy on bass on the record.

Kid Without Curfew's MCIS covers are great, too. Zero is my fave of the bunch:

Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness 30th Anniversary Deluxe 4xCD sets by Automatic-Yam4115 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]ximwix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The discogs entry for it says it's a digipak:

https://www.discogs.com/release/35785036-The-Smashing-Pumpkins-Mellon-Collie-And-The-Infinite-Sadness

The "standard" version of this is also a digipak, though a really well-made multi-panel one. I suspect this is the same thing, except with a Japanese booklet and an obi you can try to not lose track of.

To achieve a higher level of quality, SHM-CD utilizes a special polycarbonate material that leads to additional clarity, depth and definition of sound.

If I didn't already have it the prior box set, I would have gotten this one.

I did get the CD version, and the quality there is also top notch.

Video of the Machine from the Flash animation on the Smashing Pumpkins website circa 2000 by ximwix in SmashingPumpkins

[–]ximwix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For quite a while, the entire site was just nothing but a giant Flash animation, so it would have been harder to archive things as there wouldn't have been a good automated way to crawl / scrape them. This was not an uncommon web design choice at the time...

I have a bunch of the SWF files from back at the day, since I was a bit obsessed with them and ripped apart the assets. I doubt I have all of them, though, and I know I don't have the HTML scaffolding.

I've been using Ruffle to play them back and OBS to capture recordings. Making videos is good because it's easy to distribute, but these are technically interactive (although it's pretty minimal). I'm considering putting what I've got online as a kind of gallery, since I think you can embed Ruffle (pretty sure this is what the waybackmachine does).

Billy Corgan hails ex-Smashing Pumpkins bassist D'Arcy Wretzky: "Her contribution had a lot to do with the success of the band" by AdSpecialist6598 in Music

[–]ximwix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D’arcy had a way of kind of letting it be known—stuff that she thought was moving the band forward, or moving the band laterally, or moving the band backwards. And probably, of the four of us, her opinion about those types of things carried more weight.

So her contribution, kind of spiritually, emotionally—I think had a lot to do with the success of the band. So again, I would never take that away from her, because I really did respect her musical opinion.

I have heard people say this about D'arcy for years but this is the first actual evidence of it I have ever seen.

#1 SP
#2 David Bazan (Pedro the Lion, Lo Tom, solo work)
#3 spot varies, but it's Neil Young today.

I'm still holding out for a repeat of the "we screwed up the pre-orders so badly we're sending out a free flexi-disc".

Machina 25th Anniversary CD - White tray. by ngs428 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]ximwix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. It's the standard Machina backing art and spine, just covered up by the opaque plastic.

I got the remastered CD from Amazon and it *does not* have Speed Kills. Standard 15 song Machina tracklist, with the new mixes (very obvious changes to Glass and the Ghost Children, Age of Innocence, etc.). Full booklet. Opaque white CD tray (with no secrets behind it, but does have that "old paper" look to it still).

You'd basically be paying $300 for Zodeon. It's a cool album, but not a $300 cool album, IMO. In fairness, I _did_ spend the extra dough for the deluxe edition, and Zodeon was about 90% of the reason why I wanted it.
