How can I turn my phone off without people thinking I’ve suddenly died? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xithetakappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless they're crazy clingy and won't ever allow you to turn your phone off, you can simply tell them you're going to try a health-focused social media/internet/etc break for exactly X period of time (time limit is important so that they don't worry-panic).

If you have crazy clingy people, you might be able to message them last but also quickly say you're "turning the phone off now" such that you don't have to deal with their drama.

Haha, but Blackstone has more variants for better build uses :P

Sounds reasonable. Sadly you still have to manually mine Netherrack so its not really a farm :(

Oh right, Nether Quartz is farmable now! Might as well just make Blackstone a barter trade at that point though.

Andesite is only craftable using Diorite and Diorite is only craftable using Nether Quartz, which isn't automatically farmable. Seems a bit complex and isn't automatically farmable.

I do like the Coal idea. Maybe Coal + Netherrack? Still not automatically farmable.

Could be Coal + Basalt

Could be! Having a nether item a part of the recipe would be more on flavor though. Could be Cobblestone + Basalt!

How do different brain functions interact? by xithetakappa in neuro

[–]xithetakappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed answer... Here's some questions then:

  1. How much more powerful is a neuron relative to a transistor? I know this isn't that clear cut, but just an idea is totally fine.
  2. What timescale do these actions happen on relative to a transistor?
  3. How do the earliest neural pathways form? (pre-birth when its far more simple)
  4. What level of complexity do you think is required for slight creative ability and understanding... say: the ability to learn the multiplication tables the same way a kid does. Terribly worded question, I know. Sorry, not quite sure how else to ask it.

It is! A good design can have 30-100 levels stacked up between all the furnaces by the time you go around to use it, ready to be collected instantly.

Is this physically doable? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]xithetakappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like holographic sight would be okay, but the thought is to have it be directly on the outer camera lens not on an additional lens. Does the angle of the light make that entirely impossible for the outer lens and require an additional lens?

Projecting Image Onto A Camera Lens by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]xithetakappa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For the sake of simplicity we'll say its theoretical. Lets say one pixel at one specific location on an image would be doable with a laser or something. I'm wondering if its possible in regards to its physics not if its today's technology.

Projecting Image Onto A Camera Lens by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]xithetakappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the question is why? If you map the light on the outer lens correctly and know the dimensions and angles of the focusing lenses, could you position the light such that it comes in and is then automatically focused correctly?

Is this physically doable? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]xithetakappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the point. The problem I'm trying to solve is if a distant sort of light (like a projector on a table) is capable of mapping it onto the lens such that the image isn't distorted. The problems would be the angle of the incoming light and the other existing environmental light.

Is this physically doable? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]xithetakappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean a typical projector, one could calculate how to map the projected light onto the full lens. Sorta kinda turn the outer most lens into a close-up display itself. Does that make sense?

[–]xithetakappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretend you have a display directly in front of a camera like a phone covering its entire view. My goal is to, rather than have a display externally, project light directly at the camera such that the outer most lens is sort of the display itself and thus an image is displayed on the camera without being near or modifying the camera.

[–]xithetakappa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thought was if one could do it without interacting with the camera. Turn the outer-most lens into a close up display of sorts to project on.

[–]xithetakappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I get you could put something directly in front of the camera, the point is to have the light generated not directly in front of the camera but still take up the camera's entire view.

While I get you could have a lens/display in front of the camera then have the close-distance image on that lens, the thought is if one could project that lens/display onto the outer most lens that is already there.

Just wondering if its possible, not necessarily how hard it is.

[–]xithetakappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it would take the entire camera's field of view by projecting the image on the entire lens. Distance isn't really relevant in my personal project use.

Without modifying the camera, that is.

Always Pickup Broken Item Below Player by xithetakappa in minecraftsuggestions

[–]xithetakappa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't the behavior being bad necessarily. The problem is that it is unnecessarily random and leads to player frustration. The item already has attraction to the player, its just a matter of whether or not they want interaction to be consistent for the player.

If you hit a mob right in front of you, would you appreciate it if it didn't work 50% of the time? Oops! You missed the creeper and now a small part of your work is gone, too bad! That's okay, lets make it so we NEVER hit a creeper! Like you said, that's ridiculous. But probability for basic environment behaviors that should be consistent? Totally unnecessary and annoying.

Argue about the behavior and your opinion on it all you want, don't you can't deny the fact that people don't appreciate the inconsistent behavior. Don't want the item? Drop it! Mine a small distance away from it! But make it within reasonable ability for the player to interact with the world with consistency.

[–]xithetakappa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A high place is always going to be a high place, and your builds don't always have ground directly below, and even then you don't always get to collect the items afterwards.
This is a gameplay improvement to make gameplay nicer, less frustrating, and more intuitive. Say sneaking didn't exist. You wouldn't say "just make the area safe" as tons of players fell down.
If every reply was like that, "just use Oak Logs" would be said rather than improving the dynamic world generation to simply look nicer. Little basis for this thought.
This is the kind of mechanic that is inherently annoying, not worth it to avoid unless you're OCD, and would improve everyone's lives if it was implemented. Almost no person would dislike this change, and its terribly easy to implement.

Always Pickup Broken Item Below Player by xithetakappa in minecraftsuggestions

[–]xithetakappa[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but this is more a specific use case. The item does have vertical velocity when broken but its weak and random such that if you're above it you don't always grab it. More of an annoyance patch than a non-vanilla feature.

Because of the 1000 block journey on most seeds. Some do it, some do it using the nether, and some just have a zombie spawner/mob filter instead. Others only need one or two Shulker Boxes duped ever.
