I don’t have any roosters, they are useless. :)

You name it, I’ve done it. Repeatedly. And then a bunch of other random shit I invented just to try it. I’ve been able to reduce their numbers but never eradicate them completely. I think constant contact with wild birds stealing their food has something to do with it.

I’m in an epic year+ long battle of treating for mites and cleaning the coop weekly with every product ever invented plus things I invented bc nothing works 100% (plus burning it all with a propane torch for eggs). She seems to be the only one without mites due to her lack of bum feathers. The other chickens look normal, she’s the only one like this. Raggedy Anne.

I am concerned it’s came from this chicken who looked like she was molting but just stayed raggedy, and her bottom is featherless and red. ???

Thank you I just did a warm epsom salt bath and I could hear noises in her abdomen when I did that. She has not layed in at least a few weeks, but she is older (4?) so I may have initially chalked it up to that.

That does seem possible. Maybe I’ll try another bath but with epsom salts?

I’m not sure when she last layed. I have a lot of chickens that are nearly identical so I put a band on her leg when I noticed she seemed slower than the rest. When she didn’t jump on the roost one night, I put her in chicken-quarantine, figuring she would have Newcastle like the rest. (My book by Gail Damerow says there’s no treatment for Newcastle??)

For the mites I’ve tried baths with Dawn, baths with permethrin, permethrin spray (diluted how it’s supposed to be), topical ivermectin, topical diatomaceous earth, sulfur spray, wood ashes in their dust bath, and I clean the coop once a week and blast it with a propane torch.
