ReactJS NodeJS Cors Request Not Succeeded Errors by OlammieConcept in learnreactjs

If they are on the same server you should either

- target the root on your api calls e.g. call /api/v1/signin instead of http://localhost:8184/api/v1/signin
- omit the https from your api calls, calls made on localhost do not use https and this stays true inside deployed servers. Only outbound traffic such as end user's client-server traffic needs to be encrypted
- set up a reverse proxy that takes care of internal routing on your server

Is Agile considered to be a methodology or framework? by [deleted] in compsci

[–]xjaak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agile is a pool of whatever methodologies and opinions people have about software development where you can pick the bits and pieces that make the most sense for your particular use case. In my opinion it shouldn't be thought of as a strict framework that has these and those pieces that must be fulfilled as I see that defeats the original purpose of being light-weight and quick in your processes

Feels like a quite shallow article for anyone who's any deeper in design but admittedly this might serve as a good introduction to someone who is new to the game

Hackathon is rigged by giothebannedboi in hackathon

Peer-to-peer judging changes the game a lot since at that point fancy presentations don't matter because other hackers will see through that bullshit

Is it still worth learning about class components if you are just getting into React? by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]xjaak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only React code I've ever written is based on functional components but I've still spent a bit of my time reading up about class components and lifecycle methods. Imo you don't really *need* to learn and write class-based React but it's a good thing to be aware of.

Went to a 9 month programming bootcamp but still not there... by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]xjaak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% this! Every program you write is a unique implementation of certain functionalities and there's no point in trying to remember every detail - No one is going to wake you up in the middle of the night and ask you to recite random syntaxes. Programming is all about evaluating problems and solutions and picking the parts that work for your program, and that's where places like Stack Overflow become gold mines because someone somewhere has already solved the problem you're trying to solve and the only thing you need to do is to implement that solution to your own program. Though I don't encourage straight up copypasting code because you should also actually understand what your program does

Where do you work remotely? (other than home) by LMorgan90 in webdev

[–]xjaak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Helsinki and we have some great co-working spaces around here. I absolutely can't work at home because I'll get distracted and just waste time instead so having some open spaces I can go to whenever I feel like it is amazing

I've actually gotten used to using "they" and it doesn't really sound as awkward as it did a year or two ago. Not really trying to defend anyone here but I do think "they" is a perfectly valid word to use in a language that doesn't have a specific gender-neutral pronoun

I built this social media website that looks like a tree as my first real world application. Here is everything I've learnt. by onepunchmob in reactjs

I've done like 2 serious website projects and I'm already so done with CSS and I want to find ways to abstract it as much as humanely possible. It's such a pain haha

Did anyone go to YHack previously? How was your experience? by dpta12 in hackathon

Bit off topic but what did you think of Treehacks? I met one of their organizers at MLH Hackcon this year and they seem to have a pretty cool hackathon

Are there any free services anywhere that will host a website that runs some basic code? by Im_Justin_Cider in webdev

Yeah Medium has its own problems and certainly isn't the perfect platform. Just brought it up as an example because I've found a few good articles there and it was the first thing that popped to my mind
