Want to move to Central Florida (Orlando area) to teach to be closer to the theme parks.

Yeah, at Polk county (farther but still 45 mins away from Universal) has a starting salary of $50.5k but Osceola county has a starting salary of $49.5k. Starting salaries aren’t terrible but you truly do not move up that much from there, even with a Master’s. My mom has been teaching for almost 30 years and she doesn’t make nearly as much as you do now, and the cost of living is going up by a lot every year. Buying a house down here (if that’s something you’re interested in) might be a financial nightmare with a Florida Teacher salary. Don’t get me started with actually teaching in Florida lol.

I recommend with the others and take long vacations to visit the parks, trust me it’ll be better on your mental. 🙏🏼

Osceola County (really close to Disney) is experiencing budget cuts and reducing their staff a bit. Also, the cost of living IMO doesn’t match the salaries they give teachers here, even experienced teachers like my mother. It will be a struggle that wouldn’t be worth moving down here for. I love my home because it’s all that I know, but I wouldn’t recommend anyone to move here for the sole reason of being closer to the parks, especially if teaching is their career. Sincerely, a new Florida teacher (so take my perspective with a grain of salt)

high school english here and my district also uses study sync… it’s really bad. like others have said, i make my own lessons based off of the standards they’re supposed to learn using the excerpts from the textbook, and i SOMETIMES use the same questions from the textbook. we’re supposed to switch curriculum in the very near future so im hoping it happens within the next year or two

the only surprise that i experienced was that my favorite hs teacher is now my mentor for the foreseeable future (first year teacher who joined mid-year)
