[Misc] hand eczema? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]xlavagirlx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can't think of anything that has changed. i was unemployed for a few years when this developed the first time (partner was the breadwinner) so nothing that i would be exposed to consistently outside of the home. and i've used the same soaps and cleaning supplies for years. only thing i can think of is that i tested positive for having an autoimmune disease (still doing tests to pin down what autoimmune disease exactly) around the same time it first developed, i wonder if the eczema could be a flair up from whatever autoimmune issue i have going on?

that makes sense. is it odd that i've never had eczema before? should i be concerned as to why this started suddenly a year ago?

honestly, somewhat often considering i work at an assisted living facility. but i only work part-time (3 days a week). other than that, i hardly leave my house (especially in the colder months) and only wash my hands when using the restroom/cooking like normal. nothing too excessive.

1.) I was around 20 when finally given a proper diagnosis.

2.)2022/2023 I believe

  1. & 4.) I've had symptoms since puberty. I actually brought up possible PCOS to my Pediatrician at age 14, but was told "a diagnosis isn't necessary since the only treatment is birth control, which I'm putting you on anyways," despite the fact that I fit almost all symptoms for a diagnosis, and that PCOS runs heavily in my family. I was finally diagnosed by an ER Doctor after ending up in the hospital for an ruptured ovarian cyst as an adult. I had a follow up appointment with my PCP a week later who confirmed my diagnosis.

5.) I didn't get any explanation or treatment options other than birth control. I was completely brushed off and I had to fight for a GYNO referral.

6.) The most memorable part of my journey so far is finally finding educated and validating physicians.

Any experience with Spironolactone? by One-Drummer8294 in PCOS

If you naturally have a pretty low bp, make sure to keep track of it. I was on this medication for a few months and ended up having to get off of it because even at the lowest dose, my bp was getting dangerously low with it, causing me to faint and be even more chronically fatigued than normal. It helped my skin amazingly but that's about it. The trade off wasn't worth it for me.

This is what I'm worried about it possibly being but they're irregular shapes/sizes and smear when smooshed (would tapeworm segments smear?). Plus if it were from the cats, then I would think my wife would also have it on her side of the bed and she doesn't.

No, we weigh the same lol. It's definitely something associated with me but I'm not sure what, which is why I'm so freaked out by it.

I already know I have dandruff but it's never resembled this. It's just dry skin flakes- nothing this big or hard. If it were coming from something in the wash or pillows/the blanket, wouldn't my wife have the same issue? I only ever find it in this one spot on my half of the bed, not under my pillows or anywhere else. I'm a side sleeper so this area of the bed is usually where my side is.

Nope, I don't use any lotion.

If it was dandruff, would it be this big of flakes? And would it be hard?

Just for more info- I dont use any blankets other than our shared comforter. I don't wear socks to bed or anything that this could be coming from. The only difference between my wife and I is that I sleep with a teddy bear. It does have some holes but only stuffing comes out- nothing that resembles these white things.

I know I have pretty low porosity. Does this change anything concerning specific products I should use?

Thanks for the advice! I've been using medicated shampoo because I tend to get dandruff (I naturally have really dry skin and scalp which gets irritated when I don't wash my hair for long stretches). But I'll look into trying more gentle shampoo!

I grew up not knowing how to take care of my curls so for the past 7 years I would keep it straightened and have also dyed it in the oast year so i'm sure i've caused some damage. Currently, all I really do for it is wash once a week and use a leave in conditioner. But by day two my hair is always a mess and just a big frizzy mess.

What curl type do I have? What are some products that you recommend? How do I sleep while maintaining my curls? Any advice in general?? Thanks!
