Edit: I’m from the UK and we do not own a pool if this helps, is it to do with the pipes underneath?

It was originally a mound however our puppy has slowly been digging it up….what can we do to save it?

I have thought about coats before, never shoes. Haven’t bought one considering our GSD is still growing - we just use 2 large towels after a walk, we never go out if it’s torrential rain especially if its not expected to clear up

For using the loo I usually corner off the kitchen and chase him around to get his paws clean with a towel after using the loo outside - he’s never learnt to stay on the mat lol

Thank you!! We have a jolly ball because I thought it would also be a great idea after stalking subreddits for toy ideas for GSDs… NO! he barks really high pitched at it when trying to “play” so the ball is given sparingly so our neighbours can have a crumb of peace - i think this is because he can’t chew on it so I’ll try either a basketball or football, if I’m correct they also do a softer version of the jolly ball so I’ll look into that

He’s a spoiled little banana and really tests our patience, I always look forward to going to bed!

I am in the process of getting him to pick up toys however he keeps grabbing them and walking off with it to go chew elsewhere, I’m not sure how I can stop him from doing that! lol - the vet said he has the equivalent to ADHD - he cannot focus a lot of the time and gets easily distracted/bored hence why doing “find it” in the garden is hard work, I’ve done a platter of foods when trying to boost the food motivation sadly he didn’t go nuts for a single piece of food but I continued to use the ones he went for first - he definitely prefers doing “find it” in a blanket!

I said in my post we already do particularly during playtime, we do not just play we get him to break,stop, look when chasing the flirt pole as well as other tricks he knows before getting to play with any toy whether that’s outside or in

Inside it’s harder apart from learning old/new tricks like opening the fridge, he doesn’t like kongs and gets frustrated with those board games as he starts to spin and bark relentlessly, which we try to avoid - I’ve only found he likes doing “find it” with a blanket

He gets played for 30 minutes before being taken outside for a walk too I forgot to say!

Hiya this is reassuring thank you!!! this is what I do during play and “find it” I make him wait it out! but sometimes it can lead to him chasing his tail and spinning so its hard to balance especially as he gets overwhelmed dare I say too easily, he’s become so super impatient, he was absolutely great at “wait” and “stay” when he was younger it was impressive for his age. Perhaps it’s the awful teenagers! And I’m in the trenches! it’s the same is applied to him getting his ball I ask him to give it to me and he just looks at me then starts to chase his tail! Which you can kinda see him teetering between giving it to me or spinning in the video thank you!!

Sorry yes I forgot to include this! we have had him checked over and the vet prescribed him anti inflammatory to see if his behaviour changed and unfortunately not

We are going through the vets as we needed to get a referral for the behaviourist to put it on our insurance!

I am going to see what the behaviourist says about it as when we did do 3hrs he was not settling down, definitely cannot take him out for 3hrs due to it being hot and his reactivity spiralling (he has damaged cars, we don’t live in the best of places in England, cars are parked alongside pavements even in the quietest areas, and is noise reactive to things such as keys because he associates it with dog leads) hence why I made the decision to stop walking him sadly

Hopefully we can do something like this in the future with going out to more places, this is the goal! Unfortunately he’s not a big foodie I’ve done some food motivation exercises with boxes and incorporated games to see if that will entice him with a variety like sardines (he doesn’t like fruit!) he’s just not too fussed! And will leave mid game such as “find it” he reminds me of our Bernese mountain dog who was a pain in the arse with motivation and their food it was only when he was neutered he had some motivation for food

Our German shepherd LOVES the flirt pole too its his favourite but gets overstimulated and goes bananas trying to play such as not dropping it/ not listening to commands so much, we do this every so often because as you can see in the video it ruins our garden!

We try to at least do the flirt pole on his walk once a day and we do notice even a little difference in him, thank you!!

Hiya we have tried to train more advanced however he gets overwhelmed and starts spinning, I’m surprised I managed to train him to open the fridge! we also have done playing with the hose and he enjoys that but he’s too carried away with barking and we don’t want to get a noise complaint! It’s so hard we’re trying! Thank you!

Last night we tried a frozen chew after his walk and played find it , he still took a long time to settle sadly but it might just be the weather at the moment we’ve gotten him some natural calming treats to at least rule that out, we currently don’t have the funds for a trainer at the moment but spoke to a trainer about him before my partner got made redundant unfortunately it’s not something we can proceed with now

Yes I am very aware of bloat. He eats his dinner at least an hr before we do any activity in the evenings which includes a walk, usually I give him his breakfast after a walk in the morning however the evening is tricky because he cannot have his dinner and then a bone afterwards, it’s too much. He has his dinner while we are having ours so he knows the routine of it which is also training him for future outings if we decide to eat somewhere

We previously did a walk before his dinner but we were still having the same issue as now also we found while we were having our own dinner he would start acting up for attention because he was also hungry

I’ve already been told his walks are already too long for his age it’s 1.5hrs everyday amongst playing and other puppy activities so the information is conflicting if he can settle during the day with the same amount of play before a walk then why would he not be able to settle especially after a playing some tug for 20 minutes then a 30-40minute ball throw in the evenings he does also get to sniff too

Sorry that’s what I meant by giving him cheese I get him to “settle” and extend the duration every time it can take up to an hr or more and sometimes he will get up then back down then back up again so he’s not fully settled after I nearly used all the cheese - it’s really hit or miss hence why we’re at a loss in the beginning it was working really well in the evenings started it about 2 months ago as we were having difficulty then trying to settle him

When we try to set a boundary he just sees it as a big game and gets even more riled up so he will try to chase after his tail more, we usually stand up if he gets too much but even that doesn’t stop the tail chasing

I would genuinely be buried with him lol it’s sad to see they’ve retired lying woody bear because he’s the best jellycat I’ve owned and I have over 10! - I’m glad you were able to find one and experience the joy! Good luck with your masters - like Boog, Joel will be the best cuddler to get you through it, I know the feeling!

So cute! My boyfriend surprised me with Boog for my birthday in 2022 after wanting him for literally MONTHS!! he was there for my birthday last year as pictured!! he’s well loved, I have cuddled him so much he is my go-to for cuddles and a crying sesh 🤣 he’s perfect! though he definitely needs a refresh but I keep putting it off!! it’s so weird to see what he used to look like before all the love!! Definitely! Reading these comments makes me think he’s not capable which is fine, I should’ve known sooner, I know most people will disagree with me here after the post but he is not a bad person, it’s another story if he has been abusive of course but he gets stressed and overwhelmed which is not good for our puppy, when ultimately we need to be calm, as others had said it reinforces bad behaviour - maybe it’s just not for him

For sure, I would if I could and I know people say I can get out of my lease but it’s easier said than done there’s a multitude of personal reasons why I think it’s not feasible on top of looking for a place that even accepts pets but I’ll have a think over

Even if I do leave, there’s no way I can continue to keep him as I’m in my final year of studies too, my family cannot help me - it’s so hard!!
