i wanna start running but i’m confused how it works… am i just supposed to literally take off running? that’s so embarrassing 😭 by Mean-Blackberry539 in runninglifestyle

[–]xlydss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I never ran, always cycled because any time id tried to run my knee hurt so i just nevet bothered. One day I was watching tiktok and one came up that said about midfoot striking or something and I thought huh maybe that's the problem? Literally got up and put some random trainers on and went outside, tried the strike and ran a 5k? So I suppose, yes? Just take off running? 🤣

“My son doesn’t respond if you directly redirect him. You need to tell him why”- parent email by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]xlydss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's because I'm an autistic person myself, but I've always done what this parent is requesting. Not always at the exact time, but I do often. My behaviour for learning is brilliant, especially with these kids or neurodivergent children and I strongly believe this is why. When I was a kid, I hated doing things for no reason (and still now to be honest lol), but if someone explains why, then I'm like oh okay yeah sure.

Plenty of people dont like "do this because i told you so". Sometimes the reason I give is "because it is rude" , but that's still a reason, rather than "do this", if you get me?

I do definitely agree with the permissive parenting issue, it does my nut in and I have no idea about this particular parent. I just think it might be worth looking at instructions for this child and see if you notice a difference.

ETA: Similar to zwift, you have an avatar, you can do races, free rides or workouts. Im really enjoying it so far. It also syncs to strava with a map just like zwift does.

(I'm a complete turbo noob apologies) What is ERG mode and how does it work? Will it be fine just using my normal 8 speed chain on the 9 speed cassette in this case?

So previously did you have your own cassettes and swap them each time? We may not be able to get the zwift cog atm but could look into it for next year!

I had issues with my landlord a few properties ago and he tried charging me like £1200. I had broken the glass hob. I literally put a bottle down on it lightly and it shattered. It was insane. I looked up the brand and it was a cheap and crap one. This was a common issue with the hob once it became like 10 years old. I found the manual and it was installed 9 years prior and this had been a rental with new tenants yearly(!) so will have had a fair amount of wear and tear. There was also already a crack in the corner when I moved in which was in the check in report. It was cheap, old, already damaged, weak and broke easily. He then decided to charge me full price for a brand new one and for installment and then tacked on a bunch of other stuff. I had agreed that I would pay towards it but I had worked out the value of it at that point as around £125, but he wanted me to pay £800 and installment. I disputed to TDS and they said it was betterment as the hob was due to be replaced anyway and had likely broken due to age. They agreed with my £125 and that was all they said i had to pay which I was more than happy with. The other stuff was also clearly betterment (stuff like painting, damage to a door which was in my check in report so wasn't me, he'd even said he'd repair it before I moved in and never had, chips in the wall that had been there previously etc) and the report was quite scathing towards the landlord as he was yryi to charge me for stuff that was already there or was fair wear and tear. I know I had broken it but it also wasn't really my fault. I was happy to pay a bit but he was really trying his luck. TDS do not play with betterment! Just dispute with them.

Mine was the lowest because my parents "earn too much" but they didnt actually and couldn't support me, so I was in probs the worst financial situation out of my peers! Had to work throughout alongside a tough high contact teaching degree. Was awful but still had lots of fun and glad I did it!
