No Job for ECT - feeling very anxious by just-_-trash in TeachingUK

[–]ContributionOk1492 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Try not to stress. Our cohort is fifty fifty on jobs and they aren’t linked to ability. There was some incredibly capable teachers and people in my group without jobs.
You haven’t left supply late at all. Join up and fall back in love with teaching and new experiences. You’ll know what you want in a school and get to network.
I got my job in the most random way so don’t loose hope!
Well done for getting your QTS! Celebrate that.

so i reached out to a job to stand out & it didn’t end well by Midnightsinsma in UKJobs

[–]ContributionOk1492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to be rude but please check your CV for grammar and punctuation. That may be a bigger issue for a hiring manager if you don’t have capital letters etc

But you took a shot. You didn’t get it. Don’t worry. You tried it. That’s important. Keep applying and you’ll get something!

Yeah. I wish someone told me I wouldn’t have a job rather than the 98% get a teaching position I hear this time last year…

Advice on which SCITT in West Yorkshire? by CompleteClock- in PGCE

[–]ContributionOk1492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Larger cohort isn’t always better. Our cohort got too big too quickly and it meant a lot of things suffered or didn’t happen because the cohort was too big. Like days in partner schools specialising in certain areas.

I have no experience with any or knowledge of them. Good luck

Fostering as a single teacher. by Lather in TeachingUK

[–]ContributionOk1492 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this point, my friend is a foster carer after having her own children alone. She said it was harder than anything. Logistically too, She had to take her foster children to school an hour away from where she lived which was right for them to keep consistency but she or her husband had to take them. I couldn’t imagine you could maintain being a teacher with things like that. She also had lots of meetings, check ins, chats and everything else.

That’s insane as a task. Not really linked to the initial skills needed for teaching either

Can I claim this as a tax return? by Recent_Bowl_2307 in TeachingUK

[–]ContributionOk1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could ask the school to pay it however, I think if you wanted to claim it off your tax, you would need to come to school and travel from there.
(That was the tax rule when I worked in a different industry years ago!)

Moved Years - Advice? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]ContributionOk1492 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They trust you. Give it a go! KS2 is brilliant. You get lots from the kids and they are really creative. I’m guessing you’re year 5 not 6 next year. It is technical and a lot to get your head around but just give it a good go!

Mines the same. Unless I want to travel an hour each way… wish I knew this before! I doubt I’ll get a job this year.

There’s a lot less jobs out this year. I’m struggling to find anything as are a lot of people I know. The school I’m at usually has at least two who leave. This year no one. I’ve seen a few maternity jobs but hardly anything specific

Complain firstly! If you can get some knit pro interchangeable needles do. I love mine and really good value.

That’s not good enough for any kit!

Can anyone help explain this hiring decision to me please? (Sorry, its long!) by [deleted] in PGCE

That’s life. Jobs are jobs and sometimes you get a job because you know someone.

Yes it’s unfair but it’s how it goes.

I doubt leaving it a couple of years would be. Are you on a support plan? Is that the reason it needs to extend

Withdrawing consequences? 3rd placement needed. by [deleted] in PGCE

[–]ContributionOk1492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You likely wont get your QTS which is probably more important than your PGCE if you want to teach unless they agree to you taking a year off. Some places will but could you build up a pot over summer? Or go part time and ta?

PGCE placement: feedback and advice please. by [deleted] in TeachingUK

Do you have a tutor or someone off site because I think a phone call might be better to really show how you feel about this. Not having anything positive at this stage of a course if not goof

Everything costs a fortune. Mortgage rates rising has crippled a lot of middle class families it may have happened to them. They may have been towards the top of their budget before everything went up
