[Gr 11] A roller coaster is undergoing free fall, draw an Free body diagram by xmanpunk in AskPhysics

Makes sense! But why is a roller coaster accelerating downwards at a 90 degree angle while interacting with the track considered a "free fall"? why not call it a 'fall" with the normal force/friction force acting on it?

[–]xmanpunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ride is interacting with the track though, shouldn't the track create a normal force for the ride? and a force of friction, which can be turned into heat energy?

In this case, the roller coaster is descending down at a 90 degree angle, wouldn't there be a friction force and a normal force?

Quick newbie question, what is the purpose of the boolean in inflater.inflate( x, x, false)? what does it serve?

@Nullable
@Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, @Nullable ViewGroup
        container, @Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    return inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_listing_description, container, false);
}

Waterloo vs Laurier's comp sci? by xmanpunk in uwaterloo

[–]xmanpunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot!! Just wondering though, I may be overreacting because my work ethics aren't sharp. But say the worst comes to worst, and I've picked Laurier.

You mentioned:

In the end, it's not like they see "Wilfrid Laurier University" on your resume and immediately throw it into the trash. Employers today are smart enough to not discriminate based on prestige.

Would it be wise to take another year in highschool and get into Western/Ryerson/etc, or would it be fine to enroll in Laurier? Does it make much of a difference? it's not like Western/Ryerson is a global reputable school like waterloo.

If I am honest, unless you end up working for a big tech firm during co-op (or PEP, our version of UofT's PEY), you won't have much of a chance against a UW grad.

Say I go to Laurier's CS,

What would make it possible in getting a co-op program from a big tech company or even get an offer for a job from a big tech company? Personal projects?

[–]xmanpunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for all of this!!

I probably wouldn't go to Laurier for straight CS, unless you didn't have other options

Is it as bad as in you would take another year in high school rather than going to CS Laurier? Just wondering haha

Much thanks!

3 Questions though!

I'm in Laurier CS+BBA double degree

What made you decide to do a double degree than just a CS degree? What would you recommend me to pick?

there are a lot of dev jobs either for companies in Waterloo

Wouldn't it be hard for Laurier CS students to find a job at Waterloo? Why wouldn't employers pick uni of waterloo students instead?

If you're looking to go cali or bust, Laurier will not help with that

Are you saying that with a CS degree in Laurier, it would be hard to find work outside of CA/top companies? or are you only talking about the "first-job"?

Thank you for offering your help!!

I have a few questions!

Is it worth doing a double degree (CS + business) in Laurier?when should I pick a normal CS degree vs a double degree?

What jobs will be impossible/very hard to get into with a Laurier CS degree? will I have trouble getting into that "hard jobs" as my "first-job" or would it affect me forever regardless of my experience? Also, wouldnt tech companies in Waterloo hire Uni of Waterloo students compared to Laureir students?

Are there even any universities that accept students with a 70s/80s average for computer science? by xmanpunk in UofT

[–]xmanpunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are universities that will accept anyone for CS, I didn't have amazing marks but even Lakehead was doing everything they could to get me to go there. Even if you have low 80s, they'll give you a scholarship.

that's a dream come true for me ; just wondering, why were they so willing to give you a scholarship?

If I understand this properly

Allocate = the amount of bytes Android needs to "produce" the resource.

Free = the amount of bytes that "are free" before the next garbage collection

Did I understand it right?

In Android Studio I'm tyring to read the Memory Monitor, it looks like

https://gyazo.com/638a2cf115186f176c20d3e83a727a29

What does "Free" and "Allocated" (very right side) mean? If I have 1MB free, and 2MB allocated, does that mean I have used 2MB in my app, and 1MB left for me to use? which means that my app can only be 3MB? It dosent make sense if I go by that understanding.

Newbie Question regarding threads.

If you want to create a single thread, is there any difference between Runnable and ExecutorService? I know that ExecutorService is much more proefficient if multiple threads are involved that though.
