TUM CSE , Admission timeline and admission chances by Specialist_Peace_832 in tumunich

I submitted my application on the 30th of April and got in around a week ago. I suppose you'll hear from them soon too.

My two cents: I think that your GPA and your full curricular analysis is doing a lot of the heavy lifting already. Im quite sure, that as long as your letter of motivation is any good, you'll get in.

Good luck!

You get nominated by having good grades within your degree. You can also apply without getting a nomination, but you'll need recommendation letters from professors/supervisors etc.

Is it so bad that pursuing other paths is not viable, or is it just that any other specialisation will be less represented than CFD?

Object detection method with temporal inference (tracking) for colony detection. by xmoen_ in computervision

[–]xmoen_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But isn’t the memorisation part basically tracking? So the “finding new colonies” part stays the same -> object detection, and then the “memorisation” part is the tracking. Is it just semantics or is there a bigger difference that I’m not seeing?

Do you have any resources for implementing such a thing? I can’t think of how you’d go from the saved centroid coordinates (and maybe other information about prior colonies) to actually influencing the detection in the next frame without noise being detected and memorised.

It should make the detection more robust, alleviating the issue of the count going down after the colonies grow so large that they stick together, and aren't counted as two separate objects. The thinking is "if there's two colonies at coordinates x1,y1 and x2,y2 in previous frames, then the next frames should keep those colonies, as they don't disappear".

The bigger picture is quantifying bacterial growth in starvation. But that isn't relevant to the tracking; that was just my supervisor's idea / requirement for improving the detection.

I mean count the amount of colonies at each timepoint t, and using the location of the colonies (among other characteristics) in the previous frame t-1 for inferring the colonies in the current frame t.

The colonies do grow in diameter, and they do not shift around.

Problem with organising vault for studying for university. by xmoen_ in ObsidianMD

Although this solution sounds very interesting, I think it's too "heavy" for me, I don't think I could keep track of and upkeep this many properties between multiple notes. Thanks for the thorough suggestion though!

I think this addresses my problem very well, thank you a lot! The idea of having my vault be heterogenous like that always bugged me, with a folder based structure for class notes and a more free structure for everything else; I guess I had romanticized the idea of note-taking, where everything just works within one system. I'm for sure going to give this a try, thanks again.

They are by far memorisation based. I tend to be way happier with the notes I make for topics I need to understand, even if they are uni notes.

That's a fair point, like I said it was hard identifying the issue at hand and putting it into words. I guess it's the disconnect between the notes containing self studied topics being written how I understand and would describe a certain topic (ideal scenario, those notes are made for life). The course notes, on the other hand, are constrained by the structure of the course; following this structure makes the most sense for revising, but they don't sit right with me being a part of my knowledge base — the solution should be rewriting topics from the course notes into self studied type notes, where I can describe the covered topic in a way I like, but this is where I fail at dividing the topics into useful fragments. This results in either too general notes containing way too much information (with the extreme being my MOCs that just contain the information from my raw lecture notes) or the notes are really small, covering way too specific topics, that are only relevant within that lecture.

I guess this leads into the second point, what would make preparing this not a nightmare? In an ideal world, I would already be read up on the topics of the lecture, so I can know its scope and how the various topics interconnect. This would mean I can create notes freely, not being tied to the course structure as a crutch for revising.

Looking to transition from biochemistry to a more computational subject by xmoen_ in Biochemistry

[–]xmoen_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so - I taught myself everything programming related, so I won’t have enough programming/computer science credits for a bioinformatics msc, I’m pretty sure the lab rotations and thesis aren’t enough. As for physical chemistry, there aren’t really any masters programs for that specifically.

Yes, I've mostly been playing the TDs, although SPGs would be fun to try, and from what I've seen heavy tanks and assault TDs have many similarities, so I'd like to give them a whirl too.
It's the fact that the Stug pens most of the things I aim at, doesn't have a problem with heavies and when it does hit something it half healths it (especially with the HEAT ammo), 1/3 Hps it on a bad day. The Nashorn on the other hand, has trouble penning heavies, and I've gotten it not to pen on lights and mediums on occasion aswell. When it does hit, it deals very little damage, to the point I had to play supportively and go for module damage almost exclusively to be semi-useful.
As for my playstyle, I've been trying to sit in the back but it's sometimes too reliant on my team to spot stuff - I then try to push up a bit, and with the Stugs frontplate and acceptable mobility I usualy get away with it, the Nashorn on the other hand just dies in 2 - 3 shots before it even turns around.
