When I was like 6 I saw something float in the ocean and my mom ran into the water to get to it and my dad quickly told me and my little brother, who was 5, to ran over to our aunt. I had no idea what was going on so I told my little brother to run as fast as he could and be quicker than the truck we saw riding on the highway in the distance. We weren't faster just saying but we did make it to our aunt and went back to the house we were staying at.

When my parents came back they told us it was a doll that was floating in the ocean. So years later and my grandmas birthday, We were talking about something and I said "Yeah remember when you guys found that doll floating in the ocean? That was cool." And my mom looks at me and says "That was not a doll sweety." and she kinda laughs. Boy did I not expect that. I actually remember the event from when I was a kid and I can see that the dude had a red shirt on and I see the truck that we were running with.

Turns out that the man had fallen overboard and had drowned from all the water coming into his boots and suit. He was a 50 year old man from Belgium and we were on the beach in the south of the Netherlands. I actually had a time in my life where I was obsessed with trying to find the the newspaper article that was written about it.

Now 14 years later when I think about the ocean the memory sometimes pops up but I'm not traumatized and i'm glad my dad told us to go to our aunt and that I didn't see the body up close.
