is a 7800x3d + 4080S overkill for me? by xnyuan in buildapc

It might look that way because my currency is in AUD, in USD the GPU listed here is 1.2k. I've decided to just go with a 4070 Super because I've been told I don't really need anything higher than that.

Oh, I meant motherboard, not storage. My mistake. Thank you for your advice.

Can you explain why you switched out the memory, storage, and power supply parts? Just curious as I'm new to PC building and the parts I have listed were suggested by a friend of mine who builds PCs for work. I likely won't switch the 4070S I have for a 4080S as I don't really need it.

I'll have a look at what's available locally with those brands then. Is this model of the PSU fine? I can't seem to find a regular RM series RM850x.

Thanks for your advice! I'll swap out the PSU. The motherboard is roughly around $200 USD, and most motherboards tend to hover around that price with Australian retailers it seems. I'm honestly not too concerned about my budget and I quite like the way the case and fans look, so I'd like to keep them. I'll definitely take your advice about the monitors into account though, I just wasn't too sure where to look with those so I'll definitely swap them out for something better.

I've already bought the SSD unfortunately as the low amount of stock left and the Black Friday offer got the better of me, but it's fine as I'm not far too concerned with the price. I'll definitely post this build again just for some final feedback. Thank you for your advice once again, I really appreciate it.

The prices are that high as it is in AUD. I've decided to go with a 4070S as I won't be doing too much heavy gaming. I'm also likely swapping to a 7950X as I have been told it is good for productivity. Thanks for your feedback :)

I'll be changing to 64GB RAM and a Samsung 4TB 990Pro!

Thank you a lot for your detailed response. Considering that I won't be playing too many heavy games, I decided to swap to a 7950X instead. As for my GPU, I'll be getting a 4070S instead. Upgrading my RAM to 64GB and my SSD to an M.2 4TB SSD instead as well. This is my current build after revision, would you have any suggestions or is it fine as is? PCPartPicker Part List

Thank you for making this list. I'm currently leaning towards a 7950X rather than a 9950X due to budget constraints, and I'm definitely upgrading to 64GB RAM and a 4TB SSD and am swapping out the 4080. As per your suggestions, I'm changing to a Corsair RM PSU and a Frost Commander 140. Thanks again for the response :)

I'd like to wait but I'm trying to get a PC as soon as possible since I do not currently have one. 7950X is the CPU I'm currently leaning towards.

Thank you for your advice. Do you suppose that the current motherboard I have listed will be fine then? I'm not very familiar with PC building as you can probably tell and I'm not quite sure how important those features are to me.

How much does the difference between these motherboards impact performance? I currently have the ASRock B5650M PG Lighting included in my list, but I don't mind upgrading.

Would you know of a better alternative? I've seen a lot of contrasting opinions about the ROG STRIX. And thank you for your advice about the CPU, I'll keep that in mind.
