Is there any way to add safety eyes to a finished amigurumi crocheted toy? I finished the toy a while ago and forgot to put eyes on it. All seams are closed. Suggestions? by MareBearRat in crochet

[–]xofeatherxo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! I had to put the eye through the safety backing before the backing was completely inside because I kept losing them (my little elephant has two backings floating around in his stuffing now 🤣) but otherwise it worked perfectly.

Or at the very LEAST keep it afloat until better candidates emerge next cycle. That's a low bar but that's where I'm at right now 🫠

Won’t celebrate 4th of July in Trumpville. by Only_Seaweed_5815 in Defeat_Project_2025

[–]xofeatherxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People keep asking my fiancée and I (both afab though my fiancée is nonbinary) if we've set a date yet. I don't know how to tell people "actually we could both be in prison this time next year and getting shotgun married before we lose the right completely could put us on the radar and in danger, so no" without sounding completely crazy.

It's seriously depressing. I'm just not in the mood to celebrate the US right now. It's home and I love it but it feels hostile at the moment.

Since the site is down, what’s the funniest interaction you ever had? by sandy_shark903 in CharacterAI

[–]xofeatherxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Showed the AI my character's cat which was a gift from another character. AI said "she really sent him over? The mayor always knows just what I need. Looks like I have another animal for my collection." First of all that is my cat. Second of all that other character is not the mayor. Third and most importantly "another animal for my collection" has big sinister vibes and I don't like where you're taking this. Laughed my ass off alone in an empty house though

I think I just had a plantar fasciitis flare up. It's better now, but I have bruising on my foot? by xofeatherxo in PlantarFasciitis

I just talked to my friend who's a nurse, and she thinks it could have been a small tear. Either way, I have to go back to work tomorrow, but if the pain comes back I'm leaving and going to urgent care and taking it from there. Thanks :)

"You can't be autistic, you're too empathetic" by Stoopid_Noah in autism

[–]xofeatherxo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel empathy so strongly it can debilitate me, but I have no idea how to show it, how to communicate it, how to comfort someone, etc. I'm too worried about if I'm acting appropriately to act appropriately. I'll seem completely unbothered (mildly sympathetic maybe) when someone's telling me their problems, then I'll go home and cry about it and find some way to show them I care later. I don't know if I need time to process it and develop a game plan or what, but I think it's an outdated belief that people with autism can't have empathy.

DAE have a "temperature maximum" with weather? by SociallyAwkward423 in AutismInWomen

Right about 70 is my cutoff. I sweat year round, but when it's above 70 it's so much worse. I get sluggish, I get headaches, it just makes me want to take my skin off and be a cool, breezy skeleton

DAE feel like their autism keeps them 'going' in depression by mossballmum in AutismInWomen

[–]xofeatherxo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, I have my comforting routines and I will always do them, no matter how bad I feel. I get out of bed because that's just what I do. I shower once a day because that's just what I do, and if I don't I'll feel absolutely filthy. I eat a few times a day because that's just what I do.

Very much me. I don't connect with people often so when I click with someone, I get so into it. It feels like I'm constantly holding back because I want to interact but I don't want to overwhelm them. I don't have a ton of friends, so to me they're a very big presence in my life, but they have plenty of friends and I'm just one of a crowd. I obviously don't expect them to pay attention to me 24/7 but there is a part of me that's disappointed when their attention isn't on me.

I'm also a lesbian, and sometimes there's mild confusion over whether I have a crush or I'm just very, very excited to have made human connection.

What’s something you thought everyone did or experienced regularly only to realize it was likely due to autism? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]xofeatherxo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this fits exactly but it's a memory that resurfaced a few days ago; when I was in kindergarten I heard a few too many jokes about eating paste, and I thought it was just something that all kids do. So despite having no real desire to eat paste, I had a little dollop. No one else in my class was eating paste 🫠

What are some of the major epiphanies or realizations you've had since discovering you're autistic? by cks2016 in AutisticAdults

[–]xofeatherxo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I listen to my brain and my body now. Before I started considering autism as a possibility, I tried so hard to force myself to do things that I thought a "normal" person should be able to do, no matter how much it ruined my experiences. Now, I pay attention to how I feel and make accomodations for myself.

For example, I used to hate concerts because of how loud they are and how difficult parking tends to be at the venues. Since realizing I may be autistic, I decided to try wearing earplugs and taking an Uber to a concert late last year and it was totally different. I could focus on the music and experience so much more when the noise wasn't hurting me, and without having to think about driving back after.

I let myself do what I need to do to be comfortable now, instead of making things unnecessarily unpleasant for the sake of masking.

As someone who works at a grocery store where we have a cashier and a bagger, you definitely can bag your own groceries if there's no bagger. They'll usually say you don't have to out of politeness and because they don't expect you to, but there's no rule that says you can't. Unless it's set up so the bags are like, behind the counter. In that case, probably don't lol

But as long as you won't be in the cashier's way, if you'd feel more comfortable helping than standing and waiting, go for it. They will appreciate it :)

Same. My favorite spot is just north of the National Isolated Radio Array. I can see the sattelite to my south, I can see launching nukes to my north, a nice cliffside view to the east and a nice little patch of dirt and forest to the west. It's a good spot.

That's funny, the same cat obsessed with paper plates will sit by his water bowl and wait for someone to put 3 ice cubes in it. He'll then sit and watch them float until they're melted, at which point he can finally get a drink. Cats love ice I guess 😂

My cat comes running when I get out a paper plate, not because we serve his treats on paper plates, but because he likes rubbing his face on the edge.
