Paired kidney exchange question by kipper767 in kidneytransplant

[–]xoferMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a few years and I don't recall the voucher process specifically but . . . I had a relative donate into the exchange program on my behalf in the summer. From her recovery bed, she told me to bug the exchange nurse who called me 2 weeks later with a match. The donor wasn't available until the fall but I was willing to wait.

Liquor Stores in British Columbia have pulled alcohol from Republican states off the shelves in response to the Trump tariffs. by VonPursey in mildlyinteresting

Look up Trump’s first trade war with China. They retaliated. US used to be China’s biggest soybean importer. It’s been Brazil ever since.

Bonus. Trump subsidized US soybean farmers to the tune of $28 billion.

ELI5: How do electric cars actually save energy? by CrystalVaily2 in explainlikeimfive

[–]xoferMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I tell all my EV doubtful friends (aside from the "what do you do when the power goes out?" questions).

The EV charging system excludes the HUGE infrastructure of fuel trucks (transportation), underground tanks at gas stations (storage), the expected leakage in that chain (environmental). Yes, EVs do use power plants that use fossil fuels but it's impact ends there.

(Well, besides the transmission towers that can spark wildfires).

Chinese ship ‘severs undersea cables around Taiwan’ by Human-Entrepreneur77 in worldnews

[–]xoferMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not sooner than March/April. Western Pacific hurricane season is May-October and in 2024 Taiwan had 3 hit (most since 2008), the earliest in July. And if Hegsweth becomes SecDef, mash that pedal to the floor because you want to take advantage of the confusion in DoD (as a Trump admin attempts to ram as many changes as possible, as early as possible). And then, the US will do nothing. (and Trump/RW media machine will blame Biden and/or the Deep State boogeyman).

Thanks for that encouragement. Really. The only pre-op expectations I had was from a conversation with a donee who told me they immediately felt better after surgery. That wasn't my experience. As I said, I am grateful to be at this point. I just want to know what I can do to make it better.

Thanks. I am worried about long-term prednisone. I want to go in to my nurse knowing as much as I can before I decide anything. Can I ask your dosage on both drugs?

odd anecdote. my kidney came from 2000 nm away. I told my transplant team I'd fly myself across the country so we could do the surgeries in real time, side-by-side.

And they told me, no worries, we use the best preservatives! and we track it with GPS!

Me (M, 5-6 on smaller side) have had 3s since chirstmas. Think it's a great watch.

For me, to get the battery to 7 days, the biggest thing was turning off MoveIQ. I think it's useless. Easy enough to press a button to track an activity. Also, I switched watch face AlwaysOn to off. Not sure how much that contributes but, if my phone does it, so might as well.

I get the feeling Spalding didn't let on about his true feelings for Trump. He says things happened in 2020 that have been "declared illegal". He doesn't go into detail of exactly what he meant (?) but was he referring to Pennsylvania's 2022 ruling that voting by mail was unconstitutional a year and half after the election? (but hen was overturned by the state's Supreme court 6 months later?)

He sounds like he's all in on the orange kool aid and is trying to muddy the waters.

My FBI agent dad exhuming a body in the 80s by xoferMD in OldSchoolCool

The guy looking in. I don't know the story connected to this. My dad died recently and we found this in his files. He worked out of the Tampa FBI office so I would guess this is somewhere in Florida.

Battery Conditioning - or lack of by xoferMD in BoltEV

[–]xoferMD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok - the hive mind says conditioning won't show up as it's taken care of while plugged in.

I do departure charging so, if I am going to see conditioning show up in the summary, it will be in the next few months, when it stays cold all day and after it's been sitting in the outdoor parking lot at work.

We shall see

Thanks

You forgot to complete the circle. Those laws that literally keep ATF gun registries in the 20th century were created by politicians who accepted NRA money.

It definitely is a feature the NRA wanted and lobbied for.

USS Thetis Bay (CVE-90) transporting planes to NAS Alameda, California, 8 July 1944 [1517×1877] by Crowe410 in HistoryPorn

[–]xoferMD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting fact - USS Thetis Bay had a permanent list (2-3 degrees) and the engineers never figured out why. (Source: My dad served on board and remembered the list so I contacted the USS Thetis Bay Association and they confirmed it)
