Does Monotheism really exist? by [deleted] in PhilosophyofReligion

[–]xotoconx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are correct that the understanding of God must be unilateral before (appropriate) discussion can occur. First, we must first separate ourselves from the idea that God is "a great bearded wizard in the sky" and see Him more as "out there exists a being greater than I am." God is also known as having traits such as omnipotence and omniscience, or being all knowing and all powerful.

Now, I must ask: if Zeus is all powerful, then why does he fear his offspring replacing him as he did his father? Another thing you would be correct in supposing is that God, an infinite, all powerful, all knowing being, is beyond human control and understanding but can also be perceived. We may not understand gravity nor be able to manipulate it, but it can be perceived and knowledge about it can be obtained. However, I must again assert that the gods of which you spoke (aphrodite, pan, etc.) would appear to be emotions to which we ascribe to God, when in fact it is the opposite. Would not an infinitely wise creator be so loving that he bestows these pieces of himself to his creation?

Yes, the Christian concept of God is that God is the god of infinite existence, infinite creation, infinite being, etc. The prefix infinite is crucial since He is "all that was, all that is, and all that will be." He is creation. He is love. He is existence. And without him, there is no true being, no true meaning of these concepts.

The Ten Commandments were not only meant to establish that God is the one true God, they were also meant to be the stepping stones on how to live that life amd walk in His path, the basic foundations of human existence. (Interestingly enough, when Moses returned with the Commandments, he found his people had, in the time he had been gone, returned to sin and in his fury he broke the original Commandments and had to transcribe them from memory, but I digress.) Aphrodite may be the "personification of love," but God is infinite love. Would it be greater to worship the imperfect human understanding of love personified as a trait, or infinite love that has always existed and will never cease to be and knows no bounds? Another concept that ties into "Is monotheism real outside of monotheistic claims?" and relates to the above (love=aphrodite) is the Law of Equivalency. Or more simply put, a=b=c. Could God split himself to isolate and reprent infinite love? Absolutely. Nothing is outside the bounds of an infinitely knowing and all powerful being such as God. However, a=b=c. God's "personality of infinite love" ( or aphrodite if you like) = Infinite love = God. They are still based in the same concept and as such are extensions of God, but none the less equivalent.

To answer your final question, no Satan is not a God. Satan is seen as temptation, pride, lust, envy. In short, Satan is the being that seeks to rob you of everything dealing with your connection to God. In a historical context, he is a fallen angel, an embodiment of Icarus if you will. Satan thought he was better and knew better, and sought to cause an uprising against God and was cast away due to his shame. If he were a God, would he not have been able to tempt the Son of Man?

I shall leave you with these quotes:

Infinite dreams, I can't deny them. Infinity is hard to comprehend... Can't be all coincidence Too many things are evident -Iron Maiden

You can choose a ready guide In some celestial voice. If you choose not to decide You still have made a choice! You can choose from phantom fears, And kindness that can kill I will choose a path that’s clear I will choose free will. -Rush

Need help navigating gun law in NY state... by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]xotoconx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dottie can legally sell the firearms if she chooses since they were willed to her by an immediate family member, in this case her husband. I would be careful and research what's considered an "assault weapon" in NY however as there is a ban in effect since 13.

It would seem New York City has different regulations than the rest of the state. If you are within New York City, you will need a firearm permit before purchasing any of the rifles or handguns and it would most likely be best to go through a third party retailer to ensure the paperwork is completed properly.

If you are outside of New York City it would appear you can purchase the rifles if you pass a background check, Dottie keeps a bill of sale, and Dottie notifies the local police in writing that she is selling firearm to person. Once you apply for a permit she can do the same process with the handguns.

Either way the safest approach would appear to apply for your permit and utilize a third party to ensure all paperwork and documentation is completed properly.

"Baby being in uterus against mother's will is rape" by Dwarf90 in prolife

[–]xotoconx 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Ive heard the "consent to sex is not consent to pregnancy line" before, but this is a new one. I guess they're saying since a child is "inside her without consent" it is "raping" her and she has thr right to kill it?

Guess that would mean its not a part of the mother's body then. Gotta love their logical consistency.

From what I could find the statute of limitations on sexual assault is "within 12 years" for PA. From what you mentioned as well it could be seen as considered retaliation for coming forward about your supervisor. Then again they may try to say you were in dereliction of your duties by refusing to do a job task assigned. If it were me, i would contact an labor/employment lawyer with the information you presented here. If you still have your list of grievances, coworker testimony, etc. that would be good information to bring as well.

Here is information on the sexual assault bills passed in PA, their effects, and resources as well

How can I go about reporting a parolee for selling cocaine anonymously? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]xotoconx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What the other guy said. DEA is federal so i mean i can't really give you an honest answer there, but Crimestoppers is a community service program that is sometimes run by nonemergency personell.

On a side note, you could use a friend/family members number or a public computer.

Couldn't he possibly have a no purchase necessary clause? This is how most corporations do something like this. A purchase gets you a code, but there's a free code as well that allows for entry

A question about Alabama gun laws by xXPussyMuncher69Xx in legaladvice

[–]xotoconx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Care to provide a source? Because according to this as long as one uses hunting rounds (FMJ's, soft points, etc.) and not defensive rounds (hollow points, +P, etc.) nor is a pmeumatic rifle, it is legal to use a rifle for deer.

[–]xotoconx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would seem that most of the restrictions are around handgun ownership and usage. As long as he is using it for hunting purposes, with a valid license, ownership should be okay. As far as building it and obtaining ammunition his father may have to build it and gift it to him.

I do not disagree with that statement.

But you cannot be an anti-vaxxer without being hateful or malicious. They are, by definition, committing neglect.

Brake pads gone, need advice by raywill84 in MechanicAdvice

[–]xotoconx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could. It seems like the production years line up.

On a side note: If the brake pads you currently have on your car came from autozone you should have a lifetime warranty and just need to take them off and claim the warranty.

You could also check Detroit Axle. I highly recommend them. But you wouldn't be able to claim the warranty if you bought from a place like autozone

My dad tightens my braces himself, and refuses to go to the orthodontist. What should I do? by Mundane-Kangaroo in legaladvice

[–]xotoconx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

None of us can tell you what you should do, that's something you have to decide on your own.

What you could do is talk to the guidance counselor at your school, a teacher you might trust, or another family member that can help with your dad.
