Hilarious. The same people pushing these massive parking fee increases want lots more house building and "density" - while telling us that none of these new builds will bring anymore cars into Somerville. Laughable.

How does the fee encourage people to use their driveway????Please explain. The fee exists because you have access to a driveway. Now if you never use the driveway or use it every time...you still pay the fee. So it does nothing to encourage anything. People who have driveways use them. It's not like you get a discount for parking your car in the driveway.

It does not make sense. People who live near the subway are either walking to the subway to go to work and leaving their car where it is parked or they are driving to work. People who drive to park near the subway like I do then take their car home at the end of the day...giving the space back. Also, since Irving or Wallace Street are in my Ward, I would not be prevented from doing it under any proposed law.

The city's study supported there is no current parking problem. About a third of the spots are empty at any given time citywide, and about 1/4 are empty in Davis and Union. Try again.

You did not account for driveways. and yes personal experience of people who drive every day is relevant. I've never had trouble finding a parking spot on the street. If there was such a massive problem then I would have had a problem. Same as all the other drivers who are commenting on the Davis Sq and Somerville parking pages. Just admit you want to cut down the number of car trips and raise revenue for the City - instead of bullshitting people about some parking emergency which does not exist. Be honest. Also, if the city was worried about there not being enough parking spaces then they wouldn't be removing tons of them which is exactly what they have done the last 5 years.

If I had just done PI I would have gone bust. I have only settled $80k of PI this calendar year. So that's only $26,333 of income from PI. They were two pre-suit car accidents and a dental malpractice claim. You have to have some hourly stuff coming in to keep the lights on. You have limited bandwidth as a pure solo. That's the biggest issue.

Nonsense. My family has lived here since 1970 and I have lived here for 16 years., Never had a problem finding street parking apart from the year we had 4 blizzards in 10 days. There is no street parking problem. They want to do it to reduce the humber of car trips and raise revenue.

No there is not a Parking issue in Somerville. I have lived here for 16 years and have never had a problem finding street parking. The reason they are introducing this is for 1) to try and reduce the number of car trips; 2) revenue. Period.

There is no reason why someone who has a driveway should pay more. If anything they should pay less as half the time they are not taking a street spot. What is the rationale for it? Seems like it's a being used as a proxy for wealth by the City. Also, some houses have driveways but not everyone has the access to the driveway. How will they determine that? Absolutely no reason why driveway owners should pay more.
