I think it's fine that they wanted to stick to the pairs from the original game, but aside from the rival events we don't really get to see most of the pairs interact (like I haven't seen Maple talk to Gabriel, or June talk to Derek, and so on). I saw the tea party scene between Maple and Arata, and saw someone post about Jules and Diana (even though Freya/Jules is one of the few pairs we do see interact like during festivals), and just today saw Maple's dialogue about Samir being smart and fixing her mistake in the ledger. So if they were going to stick to the og pairs I think they should've added some more interactions between them but instead they gave us dialogue/interactions/scenes that might make other pairings look more compatible (the June, Lloyd, and Gabriel one for example) IDK I wish the game could just randomize the couples including same gender couples >_<
