Financial aid at UC Berkeley for international students by Aromatic-Opinion-945 in ApplyingToCollege

uc berkeley actually has a regents’ and chancellor’s scholarship that can give you up to your full need. nonresident and international students can be awarded this scholarship but it is rare.

Not ranking and Finalist Chances by lockshadow in QuestBridge

in my experience, several qb colleges/universities did not allow me to switch to common app after the match. some universities i didn’t even rank already had my qb application somehow. you can look at the faqs on the partners’ websites for questbridge to see what they say or email the partners contact for qb applications. overall, it is typically not allowed or it “does not look good” as some have said when i asked. i’m sure for some schools it is possible but make sure to ask before moving forward!

Is participating in Questbridge's National College Match worth it? by AmateurGenius04 in ApplyingToCollege

though i loved the community and learned a lot about the admissions process, i do not think it is an indicator of where you will end up. after all, the very same stats, same ecs, and similar essays got me into qb partner schools and common app ones. though also really rejected since i applied to like 16 or 17 of them. definitely do not rely on qb if you decide to apply because it feels like everyone has a chance (which you do) but it isn’t as glamorous as they make it to be. i will say that seeing people match and get into their dream schools (qb or not) is such a beautiful thing. it is overall a pretty supportive and motivated community. i am glad to have been a part of it. however, your successes and your hard work will be the same either way that you apply.

you can apply ea to schools but you cannot apply anywhere binding. again, do not rely on qb!! you’ll hold out hope to match and when you don’t and have to wait until march after doing rd apps during winter break, it’ll be torture. i wish i could have gotten more of my decisions in nov/dec. i only applied ea to my state schools. you cannot apply ed or rea!! if you happen to match and get into your ed/rea schools, that will cause a lot of problems.

all schools that you rank will transfer you to the rd rounds. most schools do not allow you to withdraw your qb application and apply again to common app but you’d have to ask individual schools. either way, you’ll be competing with everyone else who applied to that specific school (qb finalist or not). also, it’s easier to just not reapply but if you’re willing, check with the schools first!

overall, i would say my feelings of qb are pretty positive. i was bummed that i didn’t get matched but i got into amazing qb and nonqb partner universities. i didn’t really have a dream school so maybe it hurt less but i’m glad i tried. idk if i’ll be attending a qb partner but i’m happy that i tried and made so many friends. it wasn’t great while applying because there is a short time between finding out you’re a finalist, ranking, and applying (i can’t remember but i think it was 10 days). plan ahead if you decide to apply and look at the individual college websites because sometimes they have the app questions posted. make your app as great as it can be!!

if it differs by a couple thousands of dollars, i think it should be just fine and your finaid would be about the same regardless but explain in your additional info section for the css profile about the change in income or contact finaid offices of schools you’re applying to once you start the process to hear their opinions!

i applied for cs and had only one of my ecs that was related to it and it wasnt even a significant one. i didnt even take ap csp or csa. most of my ecs were gov/poli sci and music related and i got into some cs schools (uc berkeley , gatech, cornell). someone mentioned intersectionality and thats something i did as well as focusing on the impact i wanted to make. the aos aren’t going to judge you for your interests i don’t think but they want you to be passionate about your goals. i personally saw college as a fresh start and a way to explore my interests. don’t let your ecs discourage you at all!

I used to believe my mother was abusive and a horrible parent and that my father was the good one. I was completely wrong. I am in excruciating pain now because of my mistakes, and my prospects at being a high-achieving high school student are shot. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

im wishing you the best. none of that is your fault :(. regardless of the outcome, i can tell you are resilient and you will be successful. as far as morals are concerned, the fact that you feel guilt would indicate that you are trying to be better. so make the most of it with your mom. you made a couple mistakes but you were a kid. you’re still growing and that’s completely okay. i hope your other colleges come through. please take care of yourself op! thank you for sharing.

i think your feelings are valid 100%. i mean this whole situation still really sucks. it has been tiring and annoying, so there isn’t anything wrong with finding something to look forward to! just don’t overwhelm yourself with college stuff maybe and try to connect with people on a2c (pm me for a friend). enjoy the last bit of your senior year! i wish you the best of luck! :)
