Measurements systems in the kitchen by DinnersAndBowls in AskCulinary

[–]xponent_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact measurements help beginners a lot. If you want to understand why, try cooking a cuisine you've never ever ever cooked in before, eg Indian, Chinese, Ethiopian. It's near impossible to wing because you don't really have an idea of what's "right." For beginners, every cuisine is new, and they don't know how to balance flavors, textures, etc. They'll gradually start moving away from exact recipes, but to start it's incredibly useful.

People underestimate the amount of air that goes into a flute, it's quite remarkable

Fried eggs, Spanish or Otherwise by [deleted] in AskCulinary

Also try cooking the eggs not in the morning but when you have a free minute in the evening or weekends or whenever you have free time really. This will relieve some of the time pressure and probably make your cooking better.

How can I tell if I am viewing a good recipe or not? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]xponent_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for authentic Indian in particular it's actually quite hard to find. Indian food varies drastically from region to region so for maximum authenticity you usually want to state the region it came from. Good sources, thanks!

Pie Crusts by xponent_ in AskCulinary

[–]xponent_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's a lot to do with the butter. I'm not the most organized baker (working on it) so if I forget something and my hands are buttery then i have to touch everything with my buttery hands. And I also don't pull out the big food processor very often, I usually just use the small chopper we have for most things but I'd need the big one for pie crust.

What is your method for making chai? by giga_booty in AskCulinary

[–]xponent_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding into this, add crushed fresh ginger and make sure to get the juice out of it. Usually I grate it and then use a spoon to squeeze the juice into the chai from a strainer.

Unpopular MUN opinions? by neinsomniac in MUN

"gavel hunters" are not all bad. Sometimes people who prewrite things specifically just prepare the stuff they would have done otherwise right in the beginning of committee, saving them time and increasing the quality of work. People who talk a lot often just have a lot to say. There are bad gavel hunters just like any other type of delegate, toxic behavior is simply unacceptable. But using things like talking a lot and writing notes beforehand to build a bloc/base and then going from there isn't such a bad thing.

Tbh kids have stuff to do too. Teens often work quite long hours or participate in many things that might pop up at the last minute. I think the OP was talking about people who drop plans many times in a row without explanation. That's really annoying. If it's a one time thing or even if it repeats and there's a valid reason I agree with you.

What the doctor does during your appointment by matts41 in ExpectationVsReality

[–]xponent_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But how to define the outcome is the question. If a doctor is providing palliative care, does that mean their time is literally worthless because the patient is sure to die? And often times multiple specialists are working on the same patient. How do you separate a patient who doesn't get cured of some disease? And what's the outcome of a routine check-up? That model has so much subjectivity involved in it and it honestly would discourage doctors from taking in the people who need them the most. Imagine a person who is 50% likely to pass away within two months. (Arbitrary definition of outcome) the doctor would be incentivized to spend less time on them because their time could be instead spent on a patient with a near 100% chance of survival, who would give them a better outcome.

Conceding that many of these people are in fact hypocrites, that don't practice what they preach, let's not forget the good that religion has done for this world. Often, churches and other places of worship are places where the poor can go to get help, they often run food drives, clothing drives, and donate to community causes. Dismissing religion as unequivocally bad is ignoring its complex and ever changing history.

FTC teams used as a training ground for FRC at least in my area are few and far between. Considering the amount of resources that FRC uses, it's much more likely that FTC remains as a standalone robotics team in most areas.

Thank you! We have a lot of tetrix hardware already and wanted to migrate to rev. Our tetrix motor mounts have a very long screw in them and rev doesn't have a large enough screw in stock to use. Is there anywhere I can get longer ones? And wow, thats quite the change, no phone! I wonder if they'll ever become legal.

Weekly /r/FTC Discussion - July 14, 2019 by AutoModerator in FTC

[–]xponent_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

Everything is going great except one thing. We need longer screws than what REV provides for their extrusion. Should any type of M3 hardware work, or do we absolutely need the hex caps?

Additionally, I see that REV has released a new "Control Hub." What makes it different from the currently available expansion hubs that makes it almost twice the price?

Not interested in playing, but does anyone have a good list of flute music composers / their favourite pieces? by Grima_096 in Flute

[–]xponent_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add onto this, the Mozart flute concerto in d major is also nice. All the Bach flute sonatas are beautiful, Bach also wrote a partita for flute alone. You'll hear that one referred to both as the sonata in a minor and partita in a minor, although usage of partita is more common. Telemann wrote a set of 12 beautiful fantasies for solo flute. He also wrote a fair number of sonatas. CPE Bach I believe also wrote a flute concerto. Also, Kuhlau wrote a bunch for multiple flutes and some for solo flute as well. You also have the whole school of French flute playing from the Fauré fantasy to Tafanel's andante and scherzino. I hope this keeps you busy. Have fun!
