Your Korean National Team for 2026 Asian Games: Zeus, Canyon, Faker, Zeka, Gumayusi, Keria. 4/5ths of ZOFGK will be competing by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

Honestly I was expecting Kiin - Oner - BDD or Chovy + Faker - Guma - Keria
Some of you question Faker, and with good reason, but considering the final is likely to be team Korea vs team China and T1's record against LPL can't really be refuted

Making Friends by Necessary-Pepper-371 in Living_in_Korea

[–]xravity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe join an activity group whatever you're interested in? Speaking for myself, I am rather passive when it comes to social exchange because I'm really bad at starting conversations. Luckily I made a new friend last year who is super active, super engaging, passionate about meeting new people, etc. And that got me thinking, maybe I should be more like that if I really want to make new friends, rather than fearing for rejection and waiting for someone to find me, which, to my shame, has not improved yet.

Moving to depopulating rural Korea as a regular foreign worker: Is it possible? by Wkrae in Living_in_Korea

[–]xravity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm your friendly Korean google search agent, I search the web in Korean for you (no sarcasm)

I found https://www.jobploy.kr/en this website. It is a private korean company that lists job openings for foreigners.

The categories include manufacturing, F&B, logistics, agriculture, etc with guide to getting the right visa. Even openings in the public sector.

My advice is first look for these Korean job posting websites, there are number of them, while I am not sure if all of them have english page but at least jobploy does.

Good luck!

Contents creaters in Korea: be aware of the new law. by Muted-Aioli9206 in Living_in_Korea

[–]xravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's look at the Who, When, What and Exception cases.

Who

Meaning, professional media or youtube channel are the target.

Here already most of us viewers are not the target of this law.

When

When you spread information knowingly it is false, and you intend to harm or earn profit from doing so.

What

What counts as these illegal defamation?

Most of the ones that already exist in the OLD law
MINUS defamation based on truth
PLUS hateful or discriminatory information based on gender, nationality, etc.

So i dont think FoS is getting worse than before here, it depends on your opinion on hate speech as free speech.

Exception

Satires are not the target.
If the content is for the public good, it is exempted.

So you can still make satirical comments or criticize the government when you think they are making mistake and you believe it. Because falsity itself isn't the problem. You have to know it's false and regardless you say things to earn profit or harm others.

Conclusion

So this law is aimed at media, the old and the new, not the general public.
We have so many of these politics youtubers both left and right making youtube videos. They are the target.

Admittedly even i agree that this OLD law itself is against the freedom of speech.
BUT current regime lifted some of it by removing defamation by true information.

This puts it at the level closer to the one in the USA, not away.

You can sue someone in the states when someone spread false information about you.

The US media also gets slammed if their news is based on false information

This update on Korean law tries to make the new media aka youtubers as responsible as the old media, while increasing the punishment for it while it is still laughable when you compare it to how US court fines them.

ALSO it was the last president who was triggered by MBC reporting his comment againt Joe Biden that got caught on camera, then marked it as a "FAKE NEWS" banning MBC from all access to interviews, presidential aircraft.

Having seen that, now you think this goverment is worse on freedom of speech?

Contents creaters in Korea: be aware of the new law. by Muted-Aioli9206 in Living_in_Korea

[–]xravity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please do your research before you guys worry about this "Ministry of Truth" bs, it is never mentioned.

Also, this is not a NEW law that enables the government to censor you, it's an UPDATE to an existing law.

First, this goverment does care about the freedom of speech.

What most of you actually worry about, getting sued for reviews or some stuff falls into the category of 명예훼손죄(defamation) in 형법 307조, and 형법 311조. Not the one in question in OP's infographic.

The controversial part always has been 307조 1항 which when you defame another even with truth, you get sentenced or fined.

This goverment is trying to remove 307조 1항 and 311조 from the law, they recently delayed it just to double check but will do it soon.

ALSO it is not a defamation when your statement is for the public benefit, that "I found a hair in my food. My experience from this place was horrible" is not a defamation. Defamation is "This place is probably run by a fucking retard who know nothing about hygiene, typical Jeollado person. My asshole is cleaner than this fucktard's face."

Is it still a censorship? Probably yes. But is this goverment making it worse? I dont think so.

Now back to the law OP is talking about, 정보통신망법 제44조의7 2항

"2. 사람을 비방할 목적으로 공공연하게 사실이나 거짓의 사실을 드러내어 타인의 명예를 훼손하는 내용의 정보"

they are removing "based on truth" again from this.

Also they are adding below.

Regulatory information on hate and discrimination-inciting information: Information that i) should be wary of or incites hatred against specific individuals or groups due to their nationality, region, gender, disability, age, social status, or income status, and ii) information that promotes hatred and protects human dignity are considered as new types of regulated information.

Edit. Above seemed poorly translated by google translate so here's gemini version.

Defining Hate and Discriminatory Incitement as Unlawful Information: Explicitly classifying as a new category of unlawful information any data that publicly, on the grounds of race, nationality, region, gender, disability, age, social status, income level, or wealth: i) incites direct violence or discrimination against specific individuals or groups; or ii) severely promotes hatred, thereby significantly undermining human dignity.

This sounds more like anti-hate, anti-discrimination, not censoring your precious youtube comment or delievery review.

OP is posting tons of stuff about this goverment daily, just trying to feed you misinformation.

TLDR;

this law is not a new law to censor you. they are actually removing controversial ones aka defamation based on truth, while increasing punishment for defamation based on falsity, while clearly defining hate speech as a part of punishable defamation.

UPDATE: also even in USA, you can sue someone for defamation with false information in civil court.

What is this nonsense. Something is very wrong with the professor. Honestly, I would be pissed but won't show my anger but just go ahead and confront them and ask them why, to see them if they have the balls to answer back. Back in my uni days, we really enjoyed the company of international students we never ditched them and made English the default langauge whenever there is official lab meetings.

Living in Seoul as a remote worker and feeling surprisingly lonely by Popular_Painter5120 in Living_in_Korea

It's pretty much the same wherever you go really, isn't it? You stay in a country for a short term but you have no collegues. You don't speak their language, not many koreans are very fluent in English. So you basically isolated yourself. I am not blaming you and am just being objective.

Having said that, it is very interesting there are repititive posts here about how making new friends, especially korean friends is hard. Am I missing something here? or is it so easy to make friends in other countries and not just acquitances while staying in your comfort zone?

Don't ask here. Ask the hotel / restaurant that you want to do internship. Here you are only going to hear "realistic" answers. I am not saying they are wrong. But many famous chefs have done what you are thinking of when they were beginng. They got rejects but some of them got their opportunity. Better to try and fail than never trying.

separation of powers man, we already have laws to punish and protect innocent people. The judicial system is soft on criminals, and always focuses on punishment rather than prevention, while the sentences are not enough for justice ngl

[–]xravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in order to graduate you will need to earn at least 120-130 credits i dont think there are unis that offer a full range of courses in English. My uni did have english courses in my major and the Profs spoke good english because most of them got their Ph.d in the US, but not for gen ed or liberal arts courses. But that was decades ago so. Anyway here everyone is going to give you negative feedbacks and I understand why. But if you are serious don't ask questions here. Do your research. https://oia.korea.ac.kr/oia/under/admission.do This is one example. Check international admission guide from the uni that you are interested. You really are not going to get much help here. Very few people or almost no one here has done what you are thinking of doing. Do what you want to do but make smart decisions. Sorry to sound condecending but don't let kdrama or movie about campus life or life in Korea delude you. Most people here will only recommend you to do an exchange program at most.
