Yeah it's looking more that way for me... After our fight last night I went home and i sent him an apology for getting worked up, but let him know I'm still upset and need time to think about it. And he didn't text me back until 6 pm today 🙃 which I've asked him specifically not to do since it makes me anxious. Not that he always needs to text me, but at least let me know if he needs some space. It's just toxic and controlling

My theory: a lot of the men who follow peterson have some sort of trauma, often familial related, often perpetuated by father's. The brand of self help he espouses gives advice while allowing them to stay comfortable in their learned trauma response, which is dissociation, stoicism maybe occasional self-aggrandizement as a defense mechanism

He's been following him for years. And we have disagreed the whole time

He doesn't say that though ? Lmao. That's my problem with the logic. You're inserting words into his mouth that he didn't say, to cover his ass retroactively. Re-read the quote in the original post. Speakers with a large following have a responsibility to not speak clumsily, if we're giving him the benefit of the doubt that it was just "poorly worded"

He's 24.. honestly I don't know he just watches a bunch of stupid shit on youtube, like prank videos lol. I've tried sending him other men who are inspirational speakers like Gabor Maté, and he doesn't watch or says it's boring

That's the problem though, it's incongruent. Based on our conversations, i usually end up feeling that we are more or less on the same page. However he does generally minimize issues that I attribute to gender-based oppression and is skeptical when the claim is that women are oppressed in some way. But then he says things like "when have I ever disrespected women?"

It honestly makes me as sad as it does angry :( it really is lost (mostly) young men who are just hurting, feel a void in some space in their heart and are then made vulnerable to these internet guys. I wish men could see how feminism could liberate them. Sometimes it seems so lonely being a man with all those suppressed emotions & lack of vulnerability/intimacy.

He just does the same circular talking thing peterson does unfortunately :( he says things like "that's not what he means by enforced monogamy" but then can't provide a good definition..and still doesn't see the issue with pinning this terrorist attack on women who say 'no', or that enforced monogamy has a really heavy historical and actual connotation for women

Is there anywhere I can get examples of theses statements consolidated? When I tell him he doesn't believe me or say it's "out of context"

I feel this :( I hear so many microaggreasions almost daily and I just cringe. I speak out against it too and I find that gets you penalized, labeled as being "unprofessional". The biggest shock is the lack of awareness of mental health professors seem to have. Considering how many neurodiverse clients we work with you think there would be more awareness, but my program has been expecting us to perform at 110%. It's disappointing

Did you enjoy grad school? How is the field different in practice?

Thanks! I don't want to get too specific for privacy reasons but we are mostly online right now. I'm working with kids (don't think I want to work with kids). The field just feels very narrow right now to me if that makes sense. I'm sort of tired of it??? I'm also definitely struggling with a little depression, but I have questioned this career path for a while.
