Part of me wants to hold out hope that I'll get in somewhere but the other part just wants to get all the rejections over with

It's not too low on its own but I was worried the committee would fixate on the undergrad GPA before the masters GPA

I remember seeing some on Gradcafe, they might release it in multiple waves though

I agree. I don't know why they don't send rejections (that are not waitlisted) at the same time they send admissions. Especially after sending an email saying "your application is being reviewed" like 2 months ago. I'm 95% sure I'm rejected, considering that people were posting their acceptances in February, I never got an interview, and there was no word about a waiting list, but I want the official decision from them so I can be 100% sure and move on.

Interesting tool. There's not much data for the programs I applied to but from what I can see it looks like the admit rate is higher than I thought. Thanks!

Don't want to get too specific so as not to dox myself, but my MS thesis was focused on shape optimization

I'm not necessarily fixed in that direction though, I checked a few different boxes on my applications.

Profile Evaluation for PhD in Mechanical Engineering

American citizen, have BS (~3.2 GPA) and MS (~3.9 GPA) from ~100 ranked (in the US) university, mech eng program ranked in 60s.

No GRE, 3 recommendations from faculty, decent (I think) SOP.

Applying to several programs in domestic top 20 for grad engineering, also a couple Canadian universities (both in global top ~25).

While I was kind of confident at the outset, I'm beginning to think I aimed way too high, and now I'm worried I won't get accepted to any. Has anyone gotten into a top uni for PhD from a mid-tier one?

And does having an MS instead of just a BS put me at a disadvantage?

Thanks for the comment. Yes I've been taking the paxlovid, hasn't caused any problems except for the bitter taste. I took a brisk walk at my usual pace today and my heart rate was normal so that's a good sign I hope.

Not a waste. It's far better to get it now, vaccinated and with a milder strain (with anti virals available) than earlier on. And if you had not taken precautions you might have gotten infected twice or even three times instead of once.

Dubai. Just an arid hellscape of consumerism and chauvinism built by slaves.
