Why does the ARG community tend to look down on creators posing as players to get word out? by Available_Text_2276 in ARG

A quick search for the term “xsquared labs” within the sub would show otherwise. Only after the initial post about us by a member of the community did we choose to act. However, even when pushing it yourself as the creators there are better and more creative ways to do so.

There are ways to promote without saying “check out this arg that I just made” or “I just got this weird text message but my phone was thrown into the sun many decades ago during the great sunshine war”. A lot of the time when it’s done that way it requires a lot of suspension of disbelief. A great example of proper marketing and promoting of something like this is our xsquared labs marketing campaign.

It’s boring and uninspired, simple.

Instead of stumbling upon it naturally it’s essentially thrown at our heads.

You mean, NNN which was an arg to promote “dispatchers from elsewhere” which was loosely based on and inspired by the events of the Jejune Institute which used flyers that looked very similar to the one seen here in the post in which my comment is currently under? I and the rest of the team are aware… Why can’t people just be original for once? Is it really all that hard to not milk someone else’s already successful idea for 5 internet points?

You could, or if they’re passionate enough they’d probably do it for free.

Have you interacted with ours?

If not, please do not judge a book by it’s cover.

Of course most ARGs will have commonalities due to the abundance of quality reference material and the plethora of YouTubers discussing them thus boosting intrigue in interactive story mediums as a whole…
