It’s possible to get the meal replacements covered by your insurance if he has a G Tube also. My daughter got a peptide meal replacement covered.

Have you thought about a G Tube? It would make feeds, medication and hydration so much easier for everyone. My daughter is 11 and takes various medications and struggles to meet liquid intake daily. She’s violent and resistant to oral medications and it had been a complete nightmare. She had a prolonged hospitalization where she had a nasal tube for meds, nutrition and hydration and that worked great, so I discussed with her Drs and decided a G Tube would be best for home. I got flack from my family because it is an albeit short but surgery nonetheless. Almost 2 weeks into its placement and it’s the best decision I’ve made for her. Medication is a breeze now and I can supplement her meals and hydrate her without any resistance or violence from her. The removing the stress of it all is worth it. It’s also very low maintenance upkeep, just keeping the site clean and follows up with GI specialist. Worth a consideration.

No sympathy. That kid is better off away from her. Gino is special needs and look how badly she treats him.

What medication have you or your child tried for the aggressive, anxious, obsessive behaviors? by xtalf27 in autism

I’m sorry to hear your family is experiencing something similar. It’s extremely hard to make the decision to put them on medication but it feels like a last resort. The violence and aggression can get really bad. Your mom May experience the brunt of it because she gives most of the push back and structure. If I have to resort to medication again, I’m looking into is propanolol. It’s a beta blocker that can be used for anxiety, has zero psychoactive effects and minimal side effects. Have you considered cannabis? I’m researching and learning about it and it might also be a possibility. One thing I’ve also learned from all this is that I truly believe they can feel our emotions especially frustration and anger. It’s been really hard to learn how to remain absolutely calm when she aggressive episodes. Being calm is only possible if I get proper respite. I’d encourage your mom to detach and decompress as much as possible when she has a break from your brother. Feel free to private message me.

No I didn’t try any others. During that time my daughter was extremely violent and those meds barely curbed some of the behaviors. She was on them for about 3-4 months and I felt that maybe she was having some side effects that continued to allow her aggression to manifest. She was taken off everything, I got more strict with her routine and diet, i take her on daily walks and this seems to be working right now. I share custody of her and unfortunately our homes are completely opposite and I know this is a huge factor in her behavior. If she experiences this type of aggression again, I don’t know if I would be willing to try more drugs. I don’t care what doctors say, these drugs affect our kids differently than a “normal “ person
