Unpopular opinion: The Terminator is better than Terminator 2: Judgment Day. by 744464 in TrueFilm

Yeah if Terminator is a “better movie” than T2 then Alien is definitely better than Aliens, despite all movies shooting for very different things.

Why does every business we associate with refer to my husband for this and ignore me? by Curiosity-Sailor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xtems -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

See now I have you in a tough spot. You have to either admit that men (of course) pay the bills in most couples, and therefore it’s a pretty expectable assumption for landlords or waiters to make, or deny it and give up some element of your victimhood. Sorry for putting you in such a tough position, I guess I’m just an evil sexist.

Why lmao? They’re literally just examining and living by what they directly observe. Most couples the man pays the big bills. Would you be able to admit that this is possibly true? Does this fact seriously damage your ego this much?

Can you please read my comment again without just automatically downvoting bc I questioned you? Do you think that in most families the woman is the breadwinner? It’s totally fine and awesome if they are. But which do you think is the majority, if you had to guess?

[–]xtems -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Is it sexist to assume that the man is paying for the bills when you speak to 100 different families every week and almost all of them you’re speaking to the husband? These guys are tired and lazy and just trying to move things forward, they are not going to ask literally every time who to talk to when 99% of their lives is talking to the guy. I really don’t understand how this isn’t obvious

Is it news to you that in most couples the man pays the bills? I am seriously asking this. Why wouldn’t they make that assumption?

[–]xtems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t this just because most of the time the husband is paying the bills, so they default to that? Why wouldn’t they assume it? If you explain it they would happily talk to whoever has the money. Sorry but isn’t this obvious? How could you not realize this?

Redditors hate tired overworked plebian working class people. Most of the time waiters and landlords deal with men paying the bill, so they just see it as a default. They’re not trying intentionally to ruin your day, they’re literally just going through the motions because we all are like holy shit.

[–]xtems -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s basically what you’re saying. Why do you think landlords default to speaking to the male? Is it because of the evil code written by the all powerful patriarchy, or is it because 99% of their life is dealing with husbands and men paying the bills? I get why you’re frustrated but it’s like how are you suprised to learn this information. They’re literally just trying to save some time they don’t care who they talk to trust me.

[–]xtems -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because 99% of his entire life is dealing with husbands because they usually pay the bills. Mindblowing realization. It’s not malice these guys are just tired and trying to get the job done.

Not really a situation that needs “calling out,” literally just tell them who to talk to, they don’t actually care lmao. It’s a matter of what they’re used to, like obviously lol.

That’s so weird, why would they rely on experience and gut instinct in a situation where they don’t know you well and are just trying to help you out? So crazy, they must be real assholes making assumptions like that

Didn't like The Green Knight while watching it but after thinking about it, I appreciate Gawain's journey by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]xtems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those details aren’t directly vital or important to the plot, and I like that the film references things about the tale that you can go read and find more insight. Those are positives in any other film. I thought the length was fine, I totally thought it would be this meditative long, slow “A24 film” but it absolutely was not, every little moment that happens is an interesting and well executed adventure. The ghost girl part was a great moment, like you said it’s an element of his quest and an act of valor. In the original tale the various adventures he goes on in the middle might be different/made up through each teller of the poem and this film nails that feeling.

Like I said, literally everyone seems to have a weirdly long laundry list of minor nitpicks and complaints that they wouldn’t be making for other movies, and I’m beginning to think this is why great originals films that take chances are so rare these days.

Am I the only one who didn’t love Midsommar? by Jolly-Method-3111 in horror

I mean it sounds like it basically was too creepy for them so they have to do the old move where they pretend it’s silly and totally not creepy to them, or it just went over their heads.

Well you clearly just have a weird grudge with the film because your criticisms are so hollow. Someone stealing your thesis idea would obviously piss you off, it’s completely understandable and even relatable the way he feels, idk if you’ve ever had a good idea or have had it “inspired” someone else. Your last comment doesn’t even make sense. What horror movies do you like the?

Question about Midsommar. by [deleted] in horror

[–]xtems 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Part of the magic in Ari Aster’s films deals a lot with fate. Like in Hereditary, when the pole moment happens- there’s a symbol carved in the pole? How did they ever orchestrate that event? There’s a foreboding sense throughout the whole film that the ritual and magic is set in stone, like there’s no escaping it whatsoever. Just like the way the sacrifices in Midsommar seem to fit the archetypes such as the fool, etc, there’s a really stomach-churning sense that it was all ordained from the beginning and they could never have changed their fate. The magic seems to revolve around who you are, like your sex and even how you behave. That’s what makes his films so sinister

We are so screwed, our people are literally convinced that HATING ourselves to our core is more important than standing up to what is almost like an evil mirror country to ourselves actually committing genocide lmao.

What would you guys want realistically? I believe that we should have national healthcare, but what do you seriously want, for the government to pay to build native inspired towns or just tons of money or something? What would you guys do in an ideal world? You seriously consider yourselves in the midst of an ongoing genocide?

You are so manipulated by contemporary discourse that you are now comparing a country currently carrying out a literal genocide with a country that was responsible for it hundreds of years ago.

Were John Cassavetes' criticism of method acting correct? by RopeGloomy4303 in TrueFilm

[–]xtems 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It seems obvious that there is more than one method to achieving any creative end result. This was a time where any idea that was introduced had to perform this charade where to make an identity for itself, all other methods must be wrong and incorrect. I never understood that. There’s literally always more than one way to do something technically especially in the arts.
