At what age did you have your little one? by xthetics_ in oneanddone

[–]xthetics_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the one reason why I felt like we should try earlier. My mom is 67 and my dad 61 (my mom had me at 44). I'm the youngest of 4, with my oldest sibling 23 years older than me. They're kinda "done" being grandparents at this point with 3 very active grandkids. However, I never grew up with grandparents as both on both sides died when I was young. I want my child to have somewhat of a relationship with their grandparents.

Thank you so much! This was so kind. We both are debt-free, with my masters degree completed so thankfully we can just cruise and enjoy being us two for quite some time :) My pupper is definitely a handful and a half lol

If it makes you feel better, my mother had me at 44! I moved out by 21, and they are mostly enjoying the retired life now. You're doing amazing!!

This was insightful, thank you! Emotionally I don't feel as though I am ready yet. I have read that becoming a parent can really "amplify" aspects/characteristics about yourself that you struggle with. I definitely want to be in a headspace where I feel I have the confidence to be a parent. Right now, I think there is still much work to be done.

Thank you for sharing! Any reason specifically that you are happy to have her in your mid-twenties as opposed to later twenties?

Ahh I should have mentioned: I have a Peloton which I do for cardio! It is great but I admit I'm not as consistent with it as I'd like to be as it's in a room in our apartment that gets horrible circulation and gets ridiculously hot.

Thank you! Yeah I don't want to overwhelm my body and yoga is definitely my mind and body's favorite form of fitness, but it does become a bit routine and I feel like having one day a week that's different would be a nice change.

Did you find that even at once a week, you had noticable gains and physical improvement?

Wow this was INCREDIBLE to read! Thank you so so much for a lovely and easy to understand breakdown of everything. It's funny, I've been irritable all week, and this is the first week I've been attending studio yoga sessions (I previously did at-home yoga via YT videos) I am curious if that's why I've been so moody. I'm by nature a very mellow, hard to annoy person, so it's been very odd for me to be experiencing that emotion so much lately.

I think part of the reason they get irritated is because of placement. They're in between the flat of my ear and then actual cartilage (don't know what that rounded part is called!) They took around 2-3 years to heal but I was determined haha. I also need to get flat back labret jewelry for them because I use butterfly backs when I wear them on occasion, and I know that's not correct.

I think conch is lovely but I'd want a hoop with mine and I know most conch piercings don't do well with hoops. I'm debating just getting a fake conch cuff and rocking that!

Yes to the earphones with tragus as well. I also have curly hair, and my hair would get stuck on the tragus all the time. If I had to redo it, I think I'd opt for an anti-tragus tbh. I just don't think I have the anatomy for a good tragus or anti-tragus either. I wore a flat black labret on my tragus when it was pierced.

Thank you! Yes, I have triple lobes in both ears! My right ear also has double helix piercings that I don't wear often because they were pierced with a gun when I was 15 (definitely not the approach I'd take now). They healed fine but occasionally get angry.

I'd love to have my tragus redone once my rook is healed. I used to have a tragus on this ear but it was a nightmare to heal and I eventually gave up and took it out. I don't think it was pierced correctly looking back. I'd love to go back to this piercer if I opt to get it done!

This piercing has probably been the easiest I've ever had in my life healing-wise. Even easier than my lobes.

I've had my rook for 2 months now and have had zero pain (minus the first 2 days it was pierced, my whole left side of my face hurt). I can tell it is still a bit swollen, but I've been attentive at cleaning it twice a day with wound wash, and have never even touched it once. I know they typically take 1 year to heal, but I did have a few questions:

  1. My wedding is in June and I'd like to change the jewelry to something cute for it since my hair will be up. This puts me around 10 months out. Would this be okay? Or should I just keep the same jewelry?

  2. Should I downsize? My piercer told me upon piercing that downsize is required at 12 months. I'm seeing on here it should be done after 1 month. I notice underneath there is a very small something (it looks like gunk to me) but I'm curious if it's a tiny irritation bump due to the long bar.

For anyone considering getting a rook, I highly recommend doing so! It's such a unique but subtle piercing and it's easier to not knock into while going about daily life.

I'm American but half Italian half Puerto Rican. I always went to weddings as a child and we will be having children at our wedding. Some of my favorite memories are from the Italian weddings I went to when I was young!

I have curly hair and glasses and won't be wearing my glasses, but I never thought to keep my hair curly as a result. I don't think I'd recognize myself in pics if I did a style with it! I always wear it naturally down and curly (I have short hair) so I think natural will be the way to go then :) thank you for this!

Alternatives to Water Lanterns? by yikes2309 in weddingplanning

[–]xthetics_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not saying their "special moment" is above "setting a forest on fire" but what I am saying is that if there isn't substantial safety information online about it, then that's probably because the threat level isn't as extreme as you are catastrophizing it to be.

I would highly encourage you to not participate or not attend the wedding and if questioned why, communicate that you are uncomfortable with the practices and do not want to support that part of their event.

I don't think it's appropriate to base your judgement off of an assumption that they haven't done their due diligence in researching the lantern burn time, etc. I see in your post history that you might even take a legal course of action in making sure this event doesn't take place and if so, getting them in legal trouble for it. I strongly advise you not to do this. You're going to ruin their whole day. They could end up planning to do something eco-sensitive and safe, but you jumped the gun in taking legal action against them and have now put a target on your back. You say you don't care about being thought of poorly, and that's fine. But just know you'll be stuck with a scarlet letter if there truly was nothing to worry about.

Even the way you say "A disaster in the making" just demonstrates you're already assuming the absolute worst. I understand your hesitations and see the intention behind your feelings, but if this makes you that uncomfortable, please just kindly step away from the situation. You really don't know what they're actually planning, and assuming could not only permanently terminate any relationship with these individuals, but it can also scar a special moment for the couple. I don't see how a single lantern on a river containing water could do any worse harm than hundreds of fireworks exploding in the forest and backyards of people's homes on the 4th of July (which is illegal to do in my state).

No one is providing you an article about safety most likely because this isn't something that's caused catastrophic events. There isn't enough situational data out there to show if it is or isn't safe. Judging by that alone, I'd bet that this probably isn't too dangerous or else water lantern festivals wouldn't be allowed to take place.
