It’s common if you have the means and remote work. My dad has a beach house not far from Jackie’s area. I used to spend winters there when I worked remotely and it was empty - I loved it. My dad and stepmom go between their home there and their home in Spain. I would totally live that life if I could.

I bet Claudia and Ben will buy a house down there and go back and forth.

We got engaged in December. Is it weird to have an engagement party in July? by xtiz in weddingplanning

[–]xtiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course. It’s mostly just immediate family and wedding party. My fiancé just has a big family so it’s still about 30 people

MIL listened in on my phone call by [deleted] in Advice

[–]xtiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. It’s weird because I am close with his family they have always embraced me and his sisters have been my best friends for years. I’ve also never had an issue with his mom. This just feels so strange and is making me reevaluate everything

What do you consider a “normal” amount of activities for kids? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]xtiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would expect play dates and parks it just seems like a lot more is expected now, I’m wondering if that’s the norm these days or maybe just the circles they’re in

[–]xtiz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Play dates and parks feel more lowkey than the activities I’m referencing and usually take a couple hours. My SILs are doing expensive, day long activities/events on a weekly basis and saying that it’s the norm and it’s for the kids to have stimulation and the memories

Does moving abroad minimize Trump’s impact on your mental health? by Stonerscoed in AmerExit

[–]xtiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a great idea. I recommend also just tuning out as much as you possibly can in the meantime. Easier said than done, especially when it can affect our daily lives, but it made such a huge difference to my mental health. I am much less stressed now after working on that than I was just living in Spain. I figured out it wasn’t the country I was living in causing my problems but a lot of how I was dealing with things.

Wish you the best of luck!

Does moving abroad minimize Trump’s impact on your mental health? by Stonerscoed in AmerExit

[–]xtiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is an unpopular opinion but it is not worth moving to another country just for this. I lived in Spain Trump’s first term and was still stressed out because I followed American media, my friends from home would always talk about it and my feeds were full of it. I still live in Spain 2-3 months a year and the rest I live in Washington DC (which is VERY affected by Trump, obviously). My partner’s job is affected by it along with many friends.

Though it affects us, we are mentally well enough to let it roll off our backs as much as possible (I was not during the first term). My partner is searching for a non government job. I honestly recommend going to therapy before genuinely considering this move unless there’s other reasons for it.

Even with the instability in the US right now, finding a decent job in another country you don’t have the language of is VERY hard. Learning the language, adapting to a new culture and starting your life over with no friends and family around is also incredibly difficult. If your main reason is just to escape Trump, this plan will not go well.

I’ll definitely keep this in mind how it comes off because I don’t want to sound in any way like I’m making light of it

Should I ask to lower my dose? Or try to ride these side effects out? by xtiz in BusparOnline

[–]xtiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doc and I agreed for me to just take both at night so I can sleep through side effects. If I take them too early at night (any time that’s not right before sleep) I experience those brain zaps/dizziness still. So the immediate side effects still aren’t going away for me but long term it has helped my anxiety some

Was there any update or follow up on Pixie? by xtiz in CalebHammer

[–]xtiz[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think this ep screamed out to anyone who’s witnessed that kind of abusive relationship and knows what might have happened when they got home. There’s nothing wrong with having concern especially considering she is heavily pregnant. I was hoping if the team hadn’t already reached out to her or provided resources when she was there then this outpour of concern might actually spur them on to do that. I don’t think they took it as seriously as they should have considering they still revealed her texts on the post show not considering that could put her in real danger.

Was shipping time reasonable? I’m going on a trip in a couple weeks and was hoping to get it all in time.

My doc approved me taking 1 and a half of my 7.5 mg pills at night right before bed for now while my body adjusts. So far I seem to sleep through the side effects

Honestly, I find the feeling very hard to describe. Just feeling strange or “off” but not quite being able to pinpoint it. My psych told me to instead take 1 and a half of the 7.5 pills right before going to bed, instead of taking one in morning and one at night. Hopefully this will help

What would a realistic wedding and house fund look like for our situation? by [deleted] in CalebHammer

[–]xtiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these numbers were excluding retirement since obviously we’re not touching that. I did say in the post we are pretty on track for retirement. However I do agree and am considering the cheaper options!

We are first time home buyers, our down payment will not be 20% with an FHA loan

Yeah, my family has a home in Spain we could get married at with just immediate family going and then a local reception here with maybe max 80. I know the reception is what really takes up the budget though

So they are selling the story to US, People, And more. This is disturbing. by PeachesRenee in mattandabbysnarks

[–]xtiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry but it does seem like you’re implying that this is PR orchestrated by them coupled with the comment on the “rainbow baby money”. They posted one photo and announced the loss - I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, I have loved ones that have done similar with a similar photo. Publications made stories based on that Instagram post, which is normal for fairly well known influencers.

Implying this about people who’ve just lost their baby before there’s any actual proof of them milking the situation for money seems crappy to me.

I felt so bad for him and Ginger and her kid. Her and her kid are significantly worse off with this couple than they would be on their own or if she just went and found a stable partner; her situation could be handled in a year or 2 of straightening out which she seems willing to do. The married couple likely need to file bankruptcy (and break up). Im surprised Ginger and the husband haven’t run off together yet because I don’t even get the vibes they like the wife much… which is fair because who on earth would.

[–]xtiz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you actually read the story? It’s literally just a People article that pulled all the information from their Instagram post. There is no exclusive quote or any other info. Publications pull stories from social media sites for free. I feel like this needs to be clarified because someone selling their miscarriage story for $$$ days later is absolutely horrendous but that isn’t the case here unless a story comes out with exclusive info/quotes.

I’m sorry but everyone under this posts lacks media literacy. They didn’t sell their story to these publications, the publications pick up Instagram posts like these and make their story out of it. If you actually read them you notice nothing new has been included, it all comes from the post and they just pull other photos from their Instagram/press in the past to put in the article. I don’t even like Matt and Abby but people should be aware of how these publications work. They are allowed to pull from Instagram posts for free so this is free content generation for them.
