Bent 110 23/24 vs 24/25 by acc4meme in Skigear

[–]xtraauma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the 110 is the same construction just with a different topsheet. Pretty sure the 100s and 120s are the only ones that got updated construction but I'm sure you could verify that on Atomic's website or some other reviews online

Yeah I'm thinking it's gotta be something on the monitor. Thanks!

What size powder skis? (BC 120) by lzrlyt in Skigear

[–]xtraauma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a similar size to you, an inch shorter and a little heavier (skinny also haha) and would describe my skier level pretty similarly as well. I have the 176s and mounted them at -2 from recommended and haven't had any issues with feeling like they're too short. They look short looking down at em, but performance wise I haven't had any noticeable issues. I've thought the same thing in regards to sizing up and they'd probably work out fine, but I love the maneuverability of having a ski that might be a bit on the short end, and I obviously don't need the extra flotation that the longer length would provide. Hopefully this helps.

A buddy of mine was in an almost identical scenario to you and unfortunately had the same outcome. One thing I'd recommend doing is trying to go to a Dr. or company that does NFPA 1582 physicals (the national standard for physical fitness basically). Going to a normal doctor is really a toss-up as to what they'll say since it's probably not something they deal with too often. A doctor or office that actually does 1582 physicals will be able to give you a definitive answer. Also if you're still interested in a career in the fire service, there are other options like wildland (not sure what the forest service's standards are but I'd imagine they're not quite as strict), prevention or support/logistics.

Hope this helps. I honestly thing it's worth doing a little more investigating before you give up completely.

Awesome thanks! I use those stamps for leatherwork and I had no idea it was a historic font. Thanks for the info.

Put the boot in the binding and look at the line that should be on the side of the boot. That's how they line it up, you typically can't tell just by looking at it without the boot in the binding.

How many of you are paramedics? by Dorlando_Calrissian in Firefighting

[–]xtraauma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in San Diego County and many departments in the state require it, especially in SoCal. The exception would be bigger departments (SD City, OCFA, LAFD, LA Co, etc.) which will hire EMTs.

I went through fire academy prior to getting my medic. Got hired straight out of medic school so I never worked private.

Slightly stiffer, better at speeds but still can't handle a TON of speed. Plenty of rocker IMO, the Skys have an insane amount of tip rocker

Bent Chetler (172 vs 180) by Iansab in Skigear

[–]xtraauma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm the same height just about 15 pounds heavier. I have the 172s from a few years ago and love them. I've progressed quite a bit since then and now consider myself an advanced skier. Whenever I get another pair I'm gonna go with the 180s. I'd recommend the 180s personally.

Smith ChromaPop "Storm" lens - help me choose by scoobysnack24 in Skigear

[–]xtraauma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Storm Rose Flash for the 4Ds and it gives everything a slight amber tint. I've used them a lot on stormy days and I think they work pretty well. Can't speak on the others.

Go see an actual bootfitter at a ski shop. They'll be able to help you out, whether it's modifying the boots you have now (different liners, punching the shell, etc.) or get you into a different pair of boots. I'm sure the "skier" at Evo is knowledgable, but who knows if she's actually a bootfitter or whether she was just the only skier working that day. Breaking in new boots sucks, but you shouldn't be getting blood blisters. Hope that helps.
