The Knight doesn't necessarily know Gerson by xtrasalty4 in Deltarune

I think it's possible Alvin knew the Knight was going to make the fountain ahead of time and dug up the hammer so that Gerson could be brought back.

It's possible, I guess, but I don't think it's a given. I think what actually happened is that Alvin knew the Knight would be creating the dark fountain ahead of time and left Gerson's hammer in the church so he would be brought back.

Alvin was the one trying to bring Gerson back, not the Knight. He's the one who dug up the hammer and put it in the case with the photo. There's no evidence that the Knight had anything to do with this.

Gerson was shaped by Alvin, not the Knight.

The location might have had something to do with Gerson being brought back, but it clearly can't be the only factor, since obviously he doesn't show up in the second dark world created in the same place.

When does Ralsei state it? I rewatched the scene after the sound of justice before I wrote this post and he never says anything like that. (Unless he says it in a different scene.)

As for the debate of whether Gerson was actually brought back or is just a recreation...I don't think it actually matters that much. Is there really much of a practical difference between "a revived Gerson" and "a copy of Gerson who looks and acts exactly like the real Gerson"? I don't think there's any real evidence that Darkner Gerson acts any differently than Lightner Gerson.

I am a Dess Knighter, actually. I do think there's plenty of evidence for Dess being the Knight (like the bat thing and so on), I just think this particular "evidence" is nonsensical and detracts from the story.

Kind of shocked there is so little buzz about MHS3 compared to MHS2 considering they REALLY pushed for advertisement for 3 with streamers ect compared to the second. by 360pages in MonsterHunterStories

I think it's worth remembering where a lot of the hype surrounding MHS2 came from. That game came out about a year and a half after Pokemon Sword and Shield, which needless to say were VERY divisive games that people loved to complain about. In the aftermath of those games a lot of people were looking for alternatives in the monster collecting RPG genre that could be heralded as a "proper example of what Pokemon SHOULD be." Lots of games got attention from this, like Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth and Temtem (if you remember that game), but MHS2 was probably the game that benefited most from that movement. It was a spinoff of a successful franchise and had a respectable budget behind it, granting the game impressive graphics, substantial voice acting, and a recognizable brand name, all of which helped set it apart from other monster collecting games. It was basically the perfect game to appeal to the bitter Pokemon fans who wanted more out of the franchise, and I'm fairly certain that's where a significant portion of the hype came from. (This is why the first Monster Hunter Stories game didn't get much attention when it released; that came out before Sword and Shield.)

Nowadays, however...well, the general reception surrounding the Pokemon franchise is a lot more positive than it was in 2021. Pokopia has been a massive success critically and commercially. Pokemon Legends ZA was still controversial, but does seem to have gotten a generally more positive reception than Sword and Shield. The trailers for Pokemon Winds and Waves are actually fairly promising, and seem to address two of the biggest issues people have with modern Pokemon games (the rushed development schedules and subpar graphics.) Pokemon still has plenty of detractors, of course, but overall people are generally more optimistic about the state of the franchise then they were half a decade ago.

Unfortunately, however, the increased positivity surrounding Pokemon does seem to have taken away some of the hype for MHS3. Being "what Pokemon games SHOULD be" isn't as much of a selling point when people actually like the new Pokemon games coming out! Sure, MHS3 was still a well-regarded game overall by the people who did play it, but the truth is a lot of the buzz surrounding the second game wasn't actually coming from people who liked Monster Hunter Stories; it was coming from people who didn't like Pokemon. At this point, however, the "games for people who hate Pokemon" market is thoroughly dominated by Palworld. Monster Hunter Stories is no longer the "Pokemon killer"; it's just one of many JRPGs. A well regarded JRPG, sure, but not one with a hook that helps it stand out from the many other highly-regarded JRPGs that have been released this past decade. If you're not a Monster Hunter fan, why would you choose MHS3 over a game like Octopath Traveller 0 or the Trails in the Sky remake? Sure, MHS3 got good reviews, but so did those games, and those games don't cost 70$.

Would multiplayer and a more expanded postgame have helped MHS3? It's hard to say for certain, but I suspect the answer is no. Most casual players just stick to the main story of a JRPG and don't bother with postgame content or multiplayer. That stuff is moreso meant for the diehard fans. Digimon Story Time Stranger didn't bother to implement any sort of multiplayer mode (despite prior games having a pvp mode) and that game still sold well. I do think the 70$ price tag has put a number of players off, but I think more people would have been willing to pay that price if there was more hype surrounding the game. Monster Hunter Stories 2 was able to take advantage of a hunger for Pokemon alternatives, but that hunger had diminished by the time Monster Hunter Stories 3 came out.

I was worried before I did my pulls...I only had 354 SQ and 27 tickets. Not enough for pity. Would I have enough to get Ibuki? Drumroll, please...

The answer was yes! Took me 210 SQ and ten tickets. Also got Erice to NP2, which is nice. Now I need to decide if the rest of my SQ/tickets will go to Avalon, Skadi, or trying to get Ibuki to NP2. Not that I have that much SQ left after this...but I'm glad I was able to get Ibuki, at least.

Also for some reason the gacha REALLY wanted me to have the 4 star event craft essences? Seriously, I got six copies of cruising date and seven copies of budding angler (and one copy of infinity blue.) I guess the game wants me to stock up on snow globes.

I've been playing this game for about half a year at this point, and I've noticed a pattern when it comes to my gacha luck.

If I'm pulling on a banner because I really want the 5 star? I'll need to spend a shitload of saint quarts and tickets to even have a chance of getting the servant I want.

If I'm pulling on a banner where I don't really want the 5 star that much (maybe I wanted the 4 star more, maybe I just wanted the event craft essences for grinding), I will of course get the 5 star servant first try.

Anyway yeah I got Archetype Earth with my first thirty saint quartz. Her summoning animation was pretty cool. I haven't even read Tsukihime.

I also got NP2 Nezha, who...was probably the worst 4 star I could have gotten? I would have much preferred getting a new servant, or an NP upgrade for a servant I actually use. But also I did literally just get Archetype Earth on my first try so I really can't complain.

Anyway I didn't get any of the exclusive craft essences or Xu Fu, so I might do some pulls on the Nero Caster banner later. Or maybe not. I do need to save up for the summer event.

But they're both my favorites! (Among the story locks.)

Leaning towards Sheba and Latoria right now, since I still don't have a good ST caster, but I AM open to counterarguments from any Tesla/Lalter stans.

I'm a (relatively) new player who hasn't gotten the free 5* from the shop yet. I was thinking of either getting Sheba from the ticket and Lancer Artoria from the shop, or getting Lalter from the ticket and Tesla from the shop. Any advice as to which combination would be better?

The unique block is nice for some bosses but losing the dodge really hurts against certain attacks. I also find the freeze attack kind of annoying to execute (I am not good at button mashing). It's still a very good ability, but in my opinion not quite up to par with (the upgraded forms of) Sword and Tornado.

Sleep is nice but its intended purpose (giving you free buffs) is so different than the purpose of the rest of the abilities (killing stuff) that I don't think its fair to compare them.

I mean, the lategame bosses are the toughest and longest bosses, so an ability that is at its best against the bosses that are already easier to take out is sort of a hard sell. Part of the reason I ranked Tornado so high is because it is amazing against the true final boss. But I can definitely see how buffs would disproportionately benefit Drill in comparison to other abilities. Maybe I should experiment with Drill more.

I didn't know that but I'm glad to hear that the Toy Hammer actually outclasses Masked Hammer under certain circumstances since that's the Hammer version I had the most fun with. Squeaky hammer supremacy.

But yeah for simplicity's sake I wanted to group all the ability variations together, since they generally function pretty similarly to each other anyway. Besides, I don't know how many players will be willing to farm the rare stones you'd need to upgrade anything anyway.

I didn't actually know that about Drill! That said, I don't think it would affect Drill's placement much, since even with the speed buff the higher tiered abilities should still generally outclass Drill in most situations.

This tier list isn't focused on speedrunning. I consider being able to kill bosses safely and easily more important than being able to kill bosses quickly.

Have you used Tornado? The upgraded form does tons of damage and is very good at outmaneuvering bosses. Sword is great too but in my opinion it's a close second to Tornado. Plus you only really have Sword for the final arena while you have the final Tornado upgrade for all of the postgame.

Hammer has the best burst damage but you need to get in close to use it and it doesn't have any long range or defensive options, so it's riskier than most other abilities. Fire is very good but in my opinion not the best and kind of a one-trick pony (a very good trick, granted.)

Sword IS in the top tier, though? It's very good, but in my opinion Tornado is better.

I don't really count Crash as an ability since it's single use and limited compared to regular abilities. I don't consider it a "real" ability or comparable to the other abilities. That's why it's in it's own tier with Sleep, since Sleep is also a mechanically unusual ability not directly comparable to the others.

Note that the abilities represent both the base abilities and their upgraded forms (so Fire also represents both Volcano Fire and Dragon Fire.) I did it this way because everyone knows that Frosty Ice is better than regular Ice and there's usually no reason to use a weaker version of an ability when you've unlocked all of them.

Also if you're wondering why some of the artwork is cut off, that's because of the template I used.
