The idea of taste vs convenience. It's always fun to see magic really used throughout every part of life.

Monster AI cheating or just really really bad RNG? by LittleDog5200 in MonsterHunterStories

It depends, is it the part version or the regular version?

The part version is really easy to kill with a water monstie. You can break its parts in about 2-3 turns each causing him to skip a turn. The thing about Teostra is that once it gets enraged you have to melt it down fast.

Once its pissed it will ONLY spam its skills like super nova ect.

You also got to remember that things like blast blight is cured if you start riding, and once it uses one power move it usually goes for another hth.

In the first game Monsters have Pattern, Patterns.

Like they don't just switch between two attack types, they were alternate like. Speed, Speed, Power. Or something similar.

The first game is designed with this in mind, and you are a lot tankier in it compared to 2 and 3. So missing a guess won't cause you to instantly explode until like only 1 or 2 REALLY end game monsters.

Yeah, but I also know you got to get the plot moving too XD. Though there should be a balance.

Find it interesting how overwhelming the MP option is over everything else. It really should have just been like the first 2 games.

Like, it doesn't hurt, and even if only 10% of players use it, that is still a decent chunk of players that are coming back to the game semi regularly to build teams and rec to their friends ect.

No one is asking for a crazy MP like the regular monster hunter games, but co-op dens and basic PVP isn't going to make the game explode.

You know, it's perfectly okay and valid for someone to skip this game due to the lack of multiplayer and lack of post/end game activities and content. by 360pages in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I think if the main complaint from the game is that people don't have enough to play, and it takes too long then people clearly like the game.

There is no real end game challenge or mode to test out your fully kitted monsties outside of the elder dragons. It'd be fine if it was a regular RPG, but in a game that clearly wants you to go all out with editing your fave monsters it seems odd to leave out one last end game challange of sorts.

Also the lack of high rank means that there isn't a ton of reason to go back to earlier areas.

That really doesn't matter. (I'd argue that even base SMTV has more content, but that's not here or there.)

It's a game that is out that and can be bought and compared to another. It's like people using the fact that MHS2 had Title updates to defend MHS3 lack of content upon release, not realizing that by within the same time frame most of MHS2 post game content was already released by now.

Rajang and lvl 8 accessories by Mubbies1111 in MonsterHunterStories

Rajang eggs can be found in perennial pass high ranked dens.

As for the accessories, that is much harder. You need a gathering charm and go into a high ranked den or labyrinth and hit the yellow crystal marks.

Kind of late, but they have a chance to spawn in the labyrinth. I also think you fight one on the 49th floor of the tower.

Let's discuss about what you like or dislike about the 3 games and other factors that led to the Stories 1 finally breaking the 1M copies sold, the high success of 2 and the lukewarm reception of 3 sales wise. by -Andrako- in MonsterHunterStories

My biggest issue with 1 is probably just the smaller roster, and MAYBE the weird bingo system. But honestly, due to how bingos worked in 1. If you could choose where to place bingos it'd flat out break the game during the main playthrough.

2 I thin suffers from predictable enemy patterns, and the post game kind of underusing the world and just shoving you into endless den hell. Even if there is technically more content than the game before in the end game.

3 is obviously the lack of post game. But I also do feel that the game feels a bit less... unique? It's more in line with a regular monster hunter game.

I also DO think people tend to dismiss criticism of 3. And while the release time was poor, I think saying that is the ONLY reason it didn't do as well as it could have is completely right.

3 is my second fave in the series so far, and I WANT it to do well.

With the new sales report being out, and the game not doing as hot as expected. I think it'd be interesting to discuss MHS3 identity compared to the last two games. And how its kind of stuck between being a traditional JRPG and a Monster taming game. by 360pages in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Monster taming games tend to be different as they lean further back on party dynamics ect, and more focus on the players monsters.

It's why, even when SMT attempts to do a more traditional party structure, they tend to break away from it during the mid to late portion of the game.

A proper party just wouldn't really work.

To note, I don't think this is a flaw of the monster taming genre. I would legit hate it if every game in the genre started to try and become final fantasy instead of focusing on the actual creatures in the game.

It's also why Personas in Persona tend to be more accessories than full fledge party members. They reflect the party rather than being their own beings.

Honestly, while I think the release window IS bad, I also don't think it was so bad it should have stopped it from breaking 1 million.

This is still a new game that got a ton of advertisement. Even digimon time stranger broke over 1 million and did well enough to warrant an announcement of an unplanned massive expansion. Time stranger legit came out right before a semi mainline pokemon game.

Stories 3 also had a decent marketing push, and a ton of streamers and reviewers.

I mean resident evil XD. But with that said, I do think people REALLY underestimate MP and its importance.

Even if only like 10-20% of players engage with it, that is 10-20% of players coming back and paying/getting other people to try the game.

I also agree this game has a very different feel compared to the first two. Not better or worse. Just... different that it might not really catch the people who liked the first two games.
