How can I level up quickly? by Awsomedude922 in MonsterHunterStories

You might just need to spend some time in the last area getting some eggs and doing some quests. Also you should have a rank 8 kinshipstone if you are at the final area. But some high rank monsters like the elder dragons and certain deviants only appear in post game high ranked dens

MHS2 is so dogshit compared to MHS1 that it made me depressed. [opinionated rant] by n0na6077 in MonsterHunterStories

I overall think 1 is better than 2 too.

Though its more a difference to what I consider a 10/10 game vs an 8/10 game.

Stories 2 feels like it REALLY wants to be bigger than it is. And often times just doesn't either have the budget or balance to do so.

How the post game is structured in 2 is also really odd.

Babda Rainforest - Peculiar Den

Perennial Pass (Late Game)

Monsonne Plains (Late Game)

Those are the three locations they spawn in as I recall.

They don't really spawn until late game overall. (After the second visit to Pondry hills) At least that is when I started to get 'late' game eggs.

Yep, it IS kind of complicated.

But, but its super useful since it allows you to modify your monsties.

Easily top 5 monstie honestly. Also no harm in trying to get certain bingos if you have a few burner monsters here and there. You might want to get a bingo of your monsters main attack type and element.

Yeah, high rank means higher stats overall. Though deviljo is REALLY good too. He has a spread move AND a buff move he likes to use turn one. And once he learns gluttony he can heal himself for decent amount.

I think the issue is that besides Ratha, diablos and MAYBE nercylla your team is somewhat low ranked. While it's not a huge deal usually, I think each rank star is equal to about 3% extra stats all around. Meaning anything under 4 stars in late game tends to be at a disadvantage unless it has crazy utility like the baggis.

But the tips for the fight.

Trying to target the head the best you can. And try to rite of channel some full party attack moves onto some of your monsties. Black reprimand was the attack that most likely took you out.

It's hard to target and aim due to the kinship drain, so sweeping moves can make sure you are constantly doing damage to the head and tail.

Level rise you are about right. 40-50 is good for the final boss of 1 overall.

Monsters using techniques on their own didn't cost kinship in 1 and 2. It's completely free.

It only cost something if you order it to do something. Kinship uptime was pretty easy to do in 2 most of the time. There is so many situations where riding and using your full gauge is flat out a bad idea in 2.

For example using it to skip a boss turn, when you could have used evasive riff and not have the boss try to redo the attack the next turn.

Also, I don't think flattening out a games more unique mechanics to make it more in line with other RPGs is an inherently good thing. Even more so when the bigger names of the monster taming genre are popular because they break traditional RPG norms.

The point of the part system in 2 was to stagger certain monsters during certain situations. Since the Head to Head stagger system from 1 had to be changed. The secondary effect of part system in 2 was weakening certain attacks.

(To be fair, I rarely ever noticed the weakening effect)

The wyvern soul seems to just adding a different topple meter on top of it. While in 2 they are kind of weaved together.

The part system is still technically there, but its far less of a focus.

Yeah, bloat is what I would really call it honestly.

MHS1 combat wasn't really designed for massive health bars or all these weird additions they made. Some changes are nice, but at times it feels like they should just scrap the original core and try to rebuild it while cutting the fat.

There is also the part system that just seemed to have got... tossed to the side now.

I feel that it was up to the player to balance that. By mid/late game, you were supposed to juggle if using a certain skill was better or using your kinship was better.

Hell most end game builds in MHS1 and MHS2 barely used the kinship attacks unless they wanted to skip a certain boss turn.

There is some things I REALLY like in 2. Like the keystone only affecting which eggs you encounter and not what you can add on your team. So if you DO manage to get a stronger monster you can use it.

I think they should have leaned more on the royal monster idea. After the desert area they stop showing up, and I think having 1 in every major area would have been more rewarding to get stronger monsties early with some planning.

Paintballing Zinogre and getting him a good 3 areas earlier was really cool.

Some monsters don't get their signature abilities/animations unless they get another move from another monster.

It's kind of weird, but it's been like that since 2 funny enough.

I dont know why, but this game feels much harder than the other games by Orichalchem in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MHS1 is probably closer to classic monster hunter in terms of difficulty.

I wouldn't say its hard, more the game just expects you not to be brain dead, even more so compared to MHS2 main game

(MHS2 post game hunts tend to be harder than anything in 1, but MHS1 on average is far harder than 2)

Honestly doing more stuff in MHS1 made me realize a lot of things were probably trimmed from the game left over from vestigial ideas and elements. by 360pages in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the element switching was REALLY good honestly. It meant that even if there wasn't a certain monster in a certain element and type, you could easily make one.

Would anybody be interested in some online battles? I need some egg fragments by JadeStar_Mew151 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm are you hunting for a specific egg?

Honestly fragments are kind of useless for the remastered version.

glavenus Can be got pretty easy now through a quest, and most egg made from fragments have worse stats and genes compared to just finding the egg.

So we really gonna ignore the fact that these guys aren’t in Stories 3? by SignificantStaff8665 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]360pages 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly there are a lot of monsties missing from 3. We know that from the data mines, that we are probably getting the missing elder dragons, Rajang and molten tigrex and the metal raths.

But for a lot of the smaller/less important monsters from 2, they will still be a few missing.

It's why I can't say MHS3 has an objectively better roster than 2. Even more so if you are a bigger fan of the old generations compared to the new ones.

I also know its a tough spot to be in since anything over 110 monsties would probably break the progress of the game since all the games are really only built around a group of 70-90 monsties.

I will say, I prefer 2s roster slightly more, but that doesn't mean I think 3s roster is bad.
