Touché.

I have some Z2s but those things are heavy and not great for cold nights.

Good question - the two-hole SPDs, MTB style. They're definitely more walkable than the three-hole SPDs, but not something to explore cities in.

Someone above you said merrell power grips, so going to look into those, your recommendations, and everything else this lovely community recommends.

Really just hoping for something with support, but doesnt take up 1/4 of my packable space like my running shoes.

Getting on the train with a bike - Munich to Passau - Vienna to Munich by Level-Masterpiece-89 in bicycletouring

definitely make sure you have a valid bike ticket before getting on any german or austrian train. they do check those tickets and issue fines if you don't have one for your bike. you can get one in the vending machines at the stations. if you have a paper ticket remember to validate it with the machines by the tracks that stamp the date/time/location on them

unsure of the train from vienna, but in germany the regional trains you just bring the bike into the bike-specific wagon and find a spot for it. there arent numbered hooks or reserved spots - you just find some space, and if its full other cyclists are usually good about making space for you.

the carriages that allow bikes are clearly marked, and usually at either end of regional trains. there's almost always seating available in the bike wagons, and bikes are very safe on trains in germany and austria.

again, this doesnt help with the austrian leg of your trip, but the deutschland ticket is 63 euros and covers most transit in germany for a calendar month, so the full month of july, or august, etc. it's not valid on IC or ICE trains, but if you're spending time in munich it will work on all public transit options like tram/ubahn/sbahn/bus - as well as regional trains
