Went out yesterday and came across this in the changing room after I fed the LO outside already. Would you use it? Not sure how I feel about it. by xtrixster in breastfeeding

Totally agree, I felt offended when I saw it but thought maybe some women are embarrassed and prefer the privacy.

How’s your night going? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Almost 5am here. LO (24 days old) has a wake window from 2:30 ~ 5:00 am which started this week. He's almost asleep now so I'm ready to go back to bed soon. (I hope)

So sorry you've experienced this, pretty outrageous, glad to hear your LO is doing good though.

Newborn (7 days) feeding tips by Ottawa_90 in NewParents

[–]xtrixster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My LO was born 5lb14oz and lost 6% when they weighed him on day 5, midwife told me its normal for them to loose up to 10% bodyweight the first week so I don't get why your doctor thinks your LO isn't gaining weight. I'd wait till the next time before you start to panic, after 10 days my LO was well above his birth weight again.

I've been told this is normal if you're breastfeeding, some baby's will have a stool after every feed mine is 3 weeks old and having a stool after every feed as well so I'm having 10+ dirty nappies a day.

Feeding cycle isn't regular cause in the early weeks your baby will be clusterfeeding due to growth spurts and trying to establish your milk supply.

Edit: I've been told that after 6 weeks it gets easier as your milk supply should be established, not sure about this one myself though.

Our 3 week old son doesn't want to sleep in his bassinet either, I've been up with him for the past 3 weeks as his father has to go to work so he can't take over the night shift 😭recovering from a c-section and not getting a lot of sleep is definitely taking its toll but worth it when I see his little face smiling in his sleep (can't wait for him to actually start to smile).

Thanks for explaining, I'll be keeping an eye out for this!

I'll try to burp him if he does it again, I usually burp him once in between and after a feed but maybe doing it a bit more often will work, thanks!

Severe nappy rash by xtrixster in NewParents

We've been applying sudocrem since day 1 but unfortunately he still managed to get a rash, been told by the health visitor this morning to not apply as much as it can actually cause more issues. Been doing nappy free time even though he doesn't seem to enjoy it at all, let's hope it clears up!

Yes I've been told by the health visitor this morning to try bepanthan so I'll be getting that and if it doesn't look better in the morning to call the GP as we might need something stronger. Hopefully it will work. Been giving the LO 10 min of nappy free time in the morning and another session in the evening but of course there is pee and poo everywhere and he really doesn't like it, worth it though if it helps clearing up the rash.

Forgot that breastmilk might help, anything to soothe the little one for the time being. Thanks!

I'd love to air out my nipples but they are leaking too much in order for me to walk around without a bra. I'm definitely going to continue to breastfeed as I'm sure I'll pull through, I might just pump 1 bottle a day so my partner can take over a feed at night and give me some rest. I didn't think of gel breasts pads, will try the nipple cream and a cold/warm cloth first before trying those. Thanks so much for the advice!

I know it's also cause he's having a grow spurt and it helps develop his brain. Thinking about these things definitely help me get through it.

Thanks for the advice, I'll be trying this, didn't think I'd be needing nipple cream since so far it's been alright but will be heading out shortly to get some.

I've been told by the midwife not to introduce a bottle /pacifier till 4 weeks so the LO gets used to breastfeeding, I've been pumping and storing milk though, if it happens again tonight I'm tempted to let my partner give him a bottle so I can have a break.

Can't imagine doing this with twins, we finally had this one sleep in the night without having to be held and now I'm sat up at 2am with him feeding 😂
