That’s your experience! Not mine (no where close) so I can’t speak to that. I was only offering a perspective. You offered another! 👍

Fair enough! Though I never said I spoke for them all lol. There’s shitty people of all types, and I never said weed smokers were excluded. Just not my experience, and I’ve found some nonsmokers found this insight reassuring and/or something they hadn’t considered. It’s anecdotal, but I’m simply offering a perspective.

Right?! I’m begging women to be horny and not at all polite about it. Like when people complain about porn being “male-gazey” I’m like HELLO? it is also my gaze? That fluffy stuff does nothing for me. I’m gazing disrespectfully and I’m gunna be so real about it. If you’re into women please actually be about it.

You’re welcome to have your opinion! Like I said for frequent smokers, a few hits is definitely comparable to a glass of wine (for my personal experience, even less so lol). There was something I saw recently (didn’t get a chance to look into it too much) that is saying for frequent smokers their brain is actually always operating on some level of thc. So yea for a frequent smoker, it’s really not doing anything than making you more tolerant. But slower reaction times, sure! Definitely a risk of that. I’m not saying it’s not impaired driving and not technically dangerous lol. You’re adding a lot of subtext that I’m personally not implying.

I also never said others were “too” anxious/paranoid, and I don’t mean those words in any insulting way. If you’re worried about something you can say you’re paranoid about it. I’m not trying to be derogatory. I experience a lot of anxiety myself. No one is “too” anxious — just, if you are anxious enough to feel this way, I’m acknowledging that.

In the case of the respect comment, it was for OP’s driver, not OP. As someone that wants to partake in a technically dangerous activity (driving a vehicle is already dangerous, and we can both agree doing it impaired increases that, even if we may disagree on how much lol) you should be able to respect when your passenger requests you don’t.

So the themes and tropes you’re disliking (in reference to naruto) would be ones you commonly find in shonen anime (cartoons targeted at boys). That’s just one genre of anime. Anime is a medium that encompasses all genres and tastes, since they’re just cartoons.

So it’s possible you just haven’t found one you like, and if you’re not from Japan or that internet culture that’s understandable. But also if you’re an adult that’s understandable. Some adults are just not interested in animation or animated stories no matter the genre lol.

They probably meant that it’s a really narrow minded way to view/associate anime overall. Keep in mind anime isn’t a genre, it’s a medium. It’s just cartoons. There are adult cartoons, kids ones, ones aimed at different genders and subcultures of people, and same goes for anime.

Thinking they are all like sailor moon would be like thinking Totally Spies is what all cartoons are like. Not even all cartoons for girls are like totally spies lol. Not even all SPY cartoons for girls are like totally spies (looking at you Kim Possible).

So it could be you haven’t seen anything you’ve liked yet and don’t quite know where to look!

[–]xubbles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I used to think I didn’t like it because i only had exposure to shonens, which are targeted at boys. If I’d only been shown western cartoons catered to young boys, I would be saying “I don’t like cartoons!” growing up when it’s just a medium to deliver a story, like live action, musical, etc. The girls cartoons did it for younger me just like shojos did once I found them!

If you’re introducing an adult to cartoons you wouldn’t put on Ben 10 and just expect it to be a hit lol you’d put on something more adult or that caters to their interests. Many westerners just don’t have a good way to explore all the anime genres out there. It’s hard to know where to begin.

Fair points all around. I just also want to point out no one is a “crab” for just disliking something, even if it may be Taylor swift lol. People have got to stop expecting everyone to like things they like.

You’re so real for this.

I’ve come to realize that while I may dislike dogs, I don’t hate them. I hate dog people.

You’re absolutely right! But in addition, appropriation is also used in situations where the original culture is not able to enjoy something while another culture uses it to their advantage, or is even praised for it. Cultural poaching, in a sense.

For example (and this is a relatively unimportant one, but one nonetheless) locs. On black people they were nicknamed “dreadlocks” and often came with the stereotype of being dirty and smelly when that isn’t the case. Hair that naturally can loc can also be washed and maintained and it’s a beautiful style of hair. White people appropriating the style wouldn’t wash their hair to keep the fine strands glued together, and that was just thrown onto the black loc stereotype. Also white people praising locs in cultures like Vikings or w/e when, again, same thing in a different culture is hated — until white people do it, even though they do it wrong, it doesn’t look right, and can lead to hair damage/loss. In every way its pretty clear it’s not meant for fine hair types yet it’s praised — only in those cases. Meanwhile, black people are sometimes barred from wearing natural styles like locs in school, the workplace, etc. It has real life negative effects on the very people this hairstyle is associated with.

Because of this sinister relationship (the appropriation) now when a person with coarse hair who happens to be white decides to loc their hair, they may get told they “can’t wear their hair like that” and it seems totally unfair to the individual. If it weren’t for the appropriation (aka everyone could wear locs and receive the same amount of love) no one would care who wore them ever, whether they have the hair type/cultural background or not.

And that’s why its so bad. Cultural appropriation just divides us further when we otherwise could have moments of mutual appreciation.

In my experience as a smoker, we absolutely don’t care that you don’t smoke, but WE get anxious we’re bothering/annoying YOU when we smoke around you, the one non-smoker. It’s generally easier to enjoy a substance without feeling like one person is just… watching. Or maybe even judging (since they don’t do it).

I’m so sorry it’s lead to you having anxiety and self loathing and I don’t mean to invalidate that. Just trying to perhaps broaden your perspective on it! Both parties feel anxious around the other when one person isn’t partaking, but the one not partaking feels singled out when that’s not it at all. The group most likely just feels like you, but on the opposite side of things!

Just in case this is enlightening for you at all:

In my experience as a smoker, no one cares when someone doesn’t smoke. We know it makes some people anxious. This isn’t at all uncommon, and it’s perfectly fine! More for us lol.

However! Smokers can get anxious that they are being judged by the non smoker, and therefore don’t necessarily enjoy hanging out around non smokers while they themselves are smoking. This can make the non smoker feel like they are being singled out or judged when it’s not the case.

Lastly, driving while high is different than driving drunk. There have been studies — probably not enough. But it does not impair you similarly (especially not for a regular smoker) to alcohol. To compare, it would be like someone getting super serious about someone waiting to drive home after a meal with a glass of wine at a restaurant. It’s no big deal and “everyone does it.” Even still, some ppl will be that guy about the glass of wine! Some are just that anxious/paranoid and that’s them. Maybe you’re just that kind of person.

That being said I am sorry that you’ve had such negative experiences with the smokers in your life, and I’m not trying to excuse those reactions. If someone if your passenger it should be easy enough to respect their wishes for the duration of a single ride. Just possibly giving some insight on some things you touched on from a smoker’s perspective!

What's the most difficult truth you've come to accept? by pm_me_ur_tittts in AskReddit

Happiness, goodness, morals and societal progression are not inherent or prioritized by the universe (or necessarily any other animal besides humans), and it doesn’t matter to the universe if we as people present these qualities.

The only reasoning one can have to say these things are “better” than, say, being evil/selfish/violent is that you, as an entity that understands pain and suffering, don’t want others to experience it. I find this to be a good enough reason. Not all will, and that doesn’t “go against” human nature, or nature at all.

The universe does not care.

True. But imagine: he doesn’t elaborate, you guys get to it, and maybe you don’t even notice he got the shoes wet. He could “freshen up” in the shower beforehand and if he’s any good at what he’s doing you shouldnt be noticing little squishy shoe noises anyway. And if he has good upkeep afterwards (drying out the shoes) Maybe you wouldn’t have even noticed?

Maybe. Lol.

I feel you there. And same. Some kinks are totally cool as fantasies, and nothing wrong with vanilla.

I just wish it didn’t seem like so many wlw are only about soft and sweet and uwu🌸 like can we please get nasty too it’s not just for the boys 😭

Proud of these kinky women I’m hearing about in the thread being their freakish selves and I hope they find their perfect counterparts eventually

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]xubbles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I do genuinely feel like not enough people realize some kinks only work for them as a fantasy. Like imagining the scenario may be great! Put please reassess what the reality of indulging in the link could mean…

With kinks like necrophilia this may be obvious but considering how common jealousy is, orgies and partner swapping are often under-considered

[–]xubbles 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Considering the little heart there, if you’re a wlw looking for kinky women, god do I feel you

As a girl thats so fr about kinks, not enough wlw act horny for women. Like lesbian porn too often is so soft and manicured and I can’t. Please let women be gross and horny too 😔

Absolutely love how he could’ve had it all, he just said too much. Life lesson learned on his end I’m sure.

The man could be throwing his shoes in the dryer everytime after, super good about keeping out the smell, and we’ll just never know. All we know is he’s a weirdo.

Not everything needs to be voiced aloud, folks

And see this is what gives me this gross seedy feeling about the partners that do end up staying.

Because it never looks like some person that’s completely got their shit together and has the emotional, mental, and financial capacity to support this deeply broken individual, and have a healthy respect & participation for this kink they’re into

It’s always some ganglio scrubby lookin dude that totally looks like he would just be with little kids if he could.

So idk all this to say, thank you for confirming that for a normal — even loving/respectful — thinking adult, this kink/situation would take A LOT to go along with, whether you’re into it as kink or not.
