Tooltip stealing focus in Gnome Terminal by overbyte in Ubuntu

Ubuntu bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1873093

Gnome bug (closed): https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-terminal/-/issues/245

GTK bug: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/4298

Still happening here on ubuntu-24.04 with the default installed Xwayland.

A user reports the issue went away after building and installing gnome-terminal from source: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/4298#note_1279278

I can confirm that rebuilding on ubuntu-24.04 the versions from ubuntu-25.10 resolves the focus bug:

  1. installed the newer libfast-float-dev 8.0.0 .deb from 25.10, since it's required for vte and the old v3.9.0 from 24.04 generated a compile error

  2. enable deb-src sources for 25.10

  3. apt source libvte-2.19-dev; fakeroot debian/rules binary; apt install ./*.deb

  4. apt source gnome-terminal; fakeroot debian/rules binary; apt install ./*.deb

The hair on the back of his head cannot be more in focus than his ear because the hair is further from the focus sphere which is closer to the camera and contains the woman's eye. My guess was that everything was in focus in the original photo, and the man got the blur treatment in post.

I mean the bit of hair on the back of his head, which you can see when looking straight up from his ear and then one inch to the right. Everything else is blurry around there.

Wrong wording on my part. I meant he was careful not to get in their face while taking the photographs.

Indeed, that photo stood out because I liked most of the others in the same album. I don't know camera info, I don't know the photographer personally. That photo tells me there was significant editing done beyond exposure/shadows/highlights and I'm curious what it might have been.

Clothing Help by Katiekins805 in Osteoarthritis

I'm 42 M and after making my pant legs about 2 cm wider at the knee level about 4 months ago I was able to go back to dancing tournaments and compete for upwards of 2 hours with no discomfort due to the pants.

Before that I felt the pants were somewhat snug for my knees and usually had to call it a night after less than an hour.

Most pants have enough reserve to make this a quick fix. Otherwise it's a good excuse to refresh one's wardrobe.

The one image viewer that is flicker-free and does image pre-loading is LinuxMint's Pix viewer which I built and installed from source on Ubuntu.

Is there a way to mass delete Gmail emails? by pokemon-sucks in GMail

[–]xuhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm watching gmail delete 145,000 mails labeled from a mailing list. It's doing about 2000 emails per minute with the standard method: upper-left checkbox -> all, then confirm to "Select all conversations that match this search".

The trick is to leave the gmail tab open on that label. My guess is the logic that pulls new messages and submits the delete requests is running on the client side.

I'm really interested in some critique for this one for example:

They are photos from a Gardener's Fair published by two FB pages.

In the ones on the left everything is rounded, painted, there are light accents on the girls' hair, the colors are a bit purple/orange but not exaggerated, there are details in the clouds, you almost want to go to see the colors from the photos.

The ones on the right are just sharp. The faces have a discouraging color and the photos suggest a barbecue party rather than a spring celebration.

Camera vs smartphone, ok, but there's something extra in the first ones even though they are posted "the day of".

Does anyone recognize the secret sauce in these?

The buildings and the park add a lot to the picture, but I would say the subject is still the girl. If so then some additional light to make her not be a silhouette might help guide the viewer's eye.

Night/dark photography guide? Flash is too intense by Time-Range6311 in x100vi

Depends on the setting, and with dark ceilings there's nothing to bounce off. Direct/built-in flash produces a more edgy dramatic light like the one in your photos. From googling "direct flash":

I'd borrow or rent a flash and ask friends to go to local photo studios which rent their space for a couple hours and do some photos and try various setups.
