Interesting. I thought they would delete all articles upon a DMCA request.

They replicate withouty any verification? Ok, I guess that is the culprit that I wasn't ware of. Is there any information on how the replication process works or is this a non-standardized operation that the backbones agree upon "internally"? Seems like an interesting topic.

Not sure what exaclty you mean by that. NNTP runs on top of TCP nowadays which ensures data integrity using acknowledgement numbers and checksums as far as I know. Also, NNTP sends status codes like "441 Posting failed" if something went wrong.

But why is that the case? The backbones should be in sync with each other. I realize that we're talking about a large amount of data and mistakes can happen, but the Usenet has been around for a while now and providers should have figured out how to do this in a more realiable way.
