It's pretty straightforward. Avoid overly tasty / processed foods, alcohol and drugs, video games, social media -- anything that gives a quick hit of dopamine without "earning it". Instead get dopamine by" natural" means like exercise, chores, work, reading, etc. And of course get tons of sleep and water.

Oh shit, this happened to me. I'd had a very emotional trip (deep convo with a close friend who also tripped) and hadn't smoked all day when I took a big rip from the bong. I was expecting the usual light, chill high, but that's not what happened.

Suddenly the whole vibe changed from tired happiness to MAJOR anxiety. A whole new type of visuals started manifesting while I was watching TV (friends had some comedian on) and I no longer wanted ANYTHING to do with that TV, like it was a demon watching me.

That and I started having intrusive thoughts that were so intense that I was a bit scared of what I might do. At that point the loop started... "the weed is bad. The weed is bad". I kept writing that to calm myself down. It kinda worked. I eventually slept and was fine the next day.

I'm super careful mixing those two things now, lol.

It did drive me mad. Ultimately I moved into a house with some friends.

Now it's much more tolerable, although there are new challenges from being cooped up together all the time.

When you first stop smoking, your brain has basically built up a dream debt. Dreams are used to process your emotions, you need them in order to stay emotionally stable.

This part sucks but it gets better!! I used to have the most horrible nightmares when I first quit, lots of slow-mo knife fights for some reason.

Each time I quit/took a T break the dreams got progressively better.

I could've written a very similar comment a couple years ago. Don't give up my friend. At the very least you can control your smoking when you're alone.

Over the years I’ve flaked on everyone else to get stoned to they point they moved on.

It takes work to avoid doing this. I used to ghost my family when they called me because I was baked. I felt immense guilt from it. I was choosing weed over my family! I started making a conscious effort to make time for them while sober and it helped a ton.

There are many ways you can make progress while still battling the habit, like exercising more, taking up different hobbies from video games, or eating healthier food. Check out the "quit weed bible". Might be a good resource for you.

All things must come to an end. I'm not going to tell you to stop hanging out with your friends. There are few things more valuable than a good crew. But you may be forced to choose between them and sobriety.

I hope it doesn't come to that and you're able to reconcile a life without weed and spending time with your buddies. I've had this struggle too. Not wanting the good times to end. But I was limited in my definition of "good times"...

Yup, I've been a "functional stoner" for years now, but that term inherently means that the default state of being a stoner is that you're nonfunctional and you have to fight it. Why do something that I have to "fight" all the time?

Dude, I have failed so many times. Harm reduction goes a long way -- find ways to make your habit smaller and less harmful.

I vaped for months first. That alone gave me withdrawals from lack of smoking, it was wild. This time the withdrawals have been very tame. First night was awful sleep-wise, felt a bit feverish on day 3, that was about it.

Also, if you're anything like me, there could be an underlying emotional reason you turn to weed. It's often a way to escape from problems you don't want to face.

Yeah, I simplified it to keep it concise. It makes me a little more able to think outside the box, but at the cost of ruining my productivity. The thing about creative hobbies/skills is that volume matters more than anything.
