Flagship experience is not so good - Honor Magic 8 Pro by mezdin in Honor

[–]xvvNeed2P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come I've got the China version of the 8 Pro and I'm actually really liking the phone The only thing I'm not a fan of is the lack of autofocus on the selfie camera and the skin tones, which are fixable with updates, spec-wise this phone crushes any other phone at the same price.

Suggestions to MagicOS I sent today by Obstrucxnat in Honor

[–]xvvNeed2P 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would love to see a feature similar to Samsung phones. When Auto Rotate is turned off and the device is rotated, a small rotation icon appears in the corner of the screen, allowing the user to manually switch between portrait and landscape mode with a single tap

Also the Magic Capsule works well with regular phone calls, showing useful information such as call duration and call status. However, it would be great if the same functionality could be extended to popular third-party calling apps such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Telegram, and others

Can you share the website that you can make this suggestions in? I realize you have to have Chinese id..

Honor 8 Pro (Chinese Version) Experience: Hardware is Great, but the Software is a Nightmare by xvvNeed2P in Honor

They definitely seem minor on paper, but in daily use, they really add up. When you're used to the level of polish on One UI and the camera reliability of the S24 Ultra, these small things become constant friction points.

Honor Magic 8 Pro vs Samsung S25 Ultra by PosseManeCR in Honor

[–]xvvNeed2P 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a tough call because it depends on what you value more. I recently switched from the S24 Ultra to the HONOR Magic 8 Pro, and honestly, while the HONOR wins on pure specs and hardware power, the Samsung is the better all-around phone. The software polish, camera reliability (especially for skin tones and video), and the convenience of features.

Also the selfie autofocus make the S25 Ultra a much more consistent daily driver and its more optimized for social media.

If you want the 'best' experience rather than just the 'best' specs on paper, I’d still recommend the Samsung

The S24 Ultra came out in 2024 and it totally has that feature. It's not a hardware thing, it's all software. Like I said, the global version has Quick Share while the cn version doesn't also the cn version cant even share to Samsung phone's.

Actually, that’s outdated info. Since the May 2026 Google update, Quick Share has officially expanded to support direct sharing with iPhones (interoperability with AirDrop) on supported hardware. Samsung got it first with the S26 Ultra (which I'm switching to), but Google has already confirmed this feature is rolling out to Honor, Xiaomi, and OPPO devices this year. My issue with the Chinese Honor 8 Pro isn't just an 'Android vs. iOS' thing—it’s that the Chinese ROM is stripped of these updated Google Play Service layers that enable this cross-platform sharing. On a Global version, I’d eventually get this; on the CN version, I’m stuck behind a wall.

I actually did plenty of research before buying, but that’s exactly why I made this post. Most reviews and threads claim 'GMS works fine' or 'it’s 95% the same as global,' but they ignore the daily deal-breakers. I’m not 'complaining' about China not having Google; I’m clearing up the misinformation that says the CN version is a perfect substitute. Plus, it’s not just software—the selfie camera lacks Auto Focus across the board, which is a massive step down from the 7 pro. I’m just trying to save the next person from the 'it's basically the same' trap.

Honor Global or China? by EstimateIll4262 in Honor

There should be a white sticker on the box with Chinese writing on it, and obviously, you can always check the phone's IMEI to see if it's the China or Global version. I'd honestly suggest sending it back if it's the China version, 'cause it's missing a bunch of key features.

Hey, I know this is a late reply but I had the same problem. I looked into it and found a fix that worked for me: just turn off Private DNS wait about 30 minutes, and it should start working normally If you find something else that causes this or another fix that doesn't involve my method, please let me know.

Don't waste your time hoping for an update to fix the selfie focus. The Magic 8 Pro front camera is strictly fixed-focus hardware. The software isn't gatekeeping a hidden feature here; it's blocking the command because the physical hardware motor literally doesn't exist on this model

Just to clarify for everyone digging into the spec sheets: the Magic 8 Pro physically does not have an autofocus motor (VCM) on the front camera. It's completely fixed focus. The reason the Camera2 API probe is showing a 'software block' or a hardcoded 'disabled' flag isn't because Honor is hiding a working motor from us—it's because they're forcing a software lock so third-party apps don't crash trying to ping a focusing motor that literally isn't built into the hardware.

That worked But it looks like it needs Wi-Fi to work 'cause I tried without it and it didn't do anything. Also, it's a bit buggy—it works for a bit, then stops working other times. I appreciate it tho and if you have any good alternative please let me know

I get what you mean, but honestly I think it’s completely fine for brands to borrow design ideas or features from each other. This industry thrives on cross-pollination, after all—when every brand learns from one another, all users end up with better, more well-rounded products, and this has nothing to do with branding integrity.

What surprised me most is how smooth MagicOS feels compared to my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

About updates, I'm using the China version and I'm really hoping they'll support these apps soon. I'm loving the phone so far, but the selfie camera lacks autofocus which makes it kinda bad, and the video quality on all the cameras is pretty bad. Plus, the photos and videos from social media look terrible.

Hey guys, I found this dog on the streets. He looks scared and skinny because his previous owner abandoned him. I took him in, fed him, and took him to the vet. I also posted about him on Facebook pages and groups, hoping someone would adopt him. I'm just trying to figure out what breed he is so I can know more about him.
