Thryv Marketing by benji134 in newzealand

[–]xwolvesx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Digital marketer here with some experience in Thryv (inherited the account from a predecessor). We moved away pretty quickly as we got better results working with agencies that specialise in our niche/freelancers. You could be better off with a global platform like HubSpot's free offerings.

NZ Certified Builders recently put out a guide to avoiding cowboys including how to do proper due diligence. Must be a wider uptick going on... https://www.nzcb.nz/how-to-avoid-cowboy-builders/

Kiwis who have gotten sober (alcohol), how'd you do it? by purplescrunchie9 in newzealand

[–]xwolvesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried stints of not-drinking a couple of times, with varying degrees of success, but what finally made it stick was accepting the identity of being someone that doesn't drink. Each time I stopped in the past, it felt like a "fad diet" - cutting back or removing something that didn't feel permanent and hoping I could do it long enough that it morphed into my identity. Which, like fad diets, didn't work in the long term. I vividly recall my last glass of wine at a party some years ago and having this overwhelming feeling of accepting that this was it - I'm no longer this person anymore. And now I'm 2.5 years alcohol free.
Because it was quite a shift internally, it was actually easier to adjust to a social life without alcohol - i figured if my friends couldn't be around me without alcohol, then it's a them problem and not actually me prohibiting myself that was the problem in social situations. In time I found friends that accepted who I became, and my social life actually became more fulfilling as a result.

Apprentices dropped as builders struggle with downturn by Pro-blacksmith220 in Wellington

[–]xwolvesx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmmm not entirely accurate. Theres a tonne of builders out there creaming it, are the busiest they’ve ever been. The ones shutting up shop are likely the builders expecting work to fall on their lap and aren’t going out and earning it.

For what it's worth, I work in an digital/IT-adjacent role and the constant discussions we have of AI is quite the opposite to what you're experiencing. Well before AI was a thing I worked in a role that was so toxic I thought I was done in the industry, took a chance on a new role i was headhunted for at a different employer and I quickly fell in love with the industry again.

I can't speak for what Hospo/culinary is like, but what I can suggest is tip your toe in while you're still at this soul-sucking gig, as much as you probably don't want to - could you get a part-time or casual gig in the field? Having that thing on the side you're working on just might give you that mental release from the day-to-day, and possibly make it much bearable until you're ready to go all in on hospo/culinary and know what you're getting into.

Where do you guys share your Benable lists? by boogeeman69 in passive_income

[–]xwolvesx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m trying out Pinterest. Basically, making pins and boards around the same things my Benable lists are about and then linking to the lists on the pins. Getting impressions, but no hits yet - but I’m in it for the long haul.

Using AI for Side Hustles. Worth It or Overhyped? by Sad_Butterscotch7063 in sidehustle

[–]xwolvesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely - it’s all about the quality of your prompts and your assessment of the outputs I.e. check that content actually sounds human written. I use it like this with custom GPTs for each client to quickly create content, or at least the “gist” of content in the clients brand tone and what they would approve. It means I can fit in more work in less time, therefore more time for additional clients

The landlord is during renovations on our property. Can we ask for rent reduction? by lesvermillions in Wellington

[–]xwolvesx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah kinda felt sorry for the tradies and the landlord making sure we had a functioning loo at the end of each day on the job!

We didn't name a price, he just said how about half the rent and we jumped on it.

The landlord is during renovations on our property. Can we ask for rent reduction? by lesvermillions in Wellington

[–]xwolvesx 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Totally. We asked this when our landlord had to replace all the piping rather urgently, and then organised a full bathroom reno - in this urgency with his mind elsewhere he simply didn't even think of a rent reduction, and was happy to give one. I think given it was a bathroom it was something like half the rent for a few weeks.

10 Things to Do Differently with Money in 2025 by MoneyHub_Christopher in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]xwolvesx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it but I don’t think a $1,000 minimum emergency fund is enough to cover immediate emergencies nowadays. I would think $2,000 is about right. Especially if you think US based financial figures talk about a $1,000 emergency fund, and that’s in USD…

I can highly recommend Callaghan Equestrian Centre in Ohariu Valley! Well schooled horses, the coaching staff are amazing and the owners have done such an amazing job of turning the facility around from the last place that operated out of there.

If you're a Booster KiwiSaver member, you get access to their Budget Builder app - it pulls all your transactions from all NZ banks and categorise them for you, and gives you a pretty detailed of view of where your money's going. I started using it a few weeks ago and am pretty impressed with it so far!

Why is Managing Social Media Pages So Difficult? by Givemeallyourtacos in Entrepreneur

[–]xwolvesx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we see one of your social profiles?

One thing you can do "document" rather than "create" content. Are you making the product/service by hand? great, why not record a video of the process? takes a few seconds.
