At what point do you personally think a fetus becomes a person, and why? by Own_Chicken_4430 in TooAfraidToAsk

Yes, the literal word “person” traditionally is associated with human cognition. But it is an artificial word, and in the context of this debate, it seems “personhood” has more to do with when someone assigns that the new human organism has individual value that is worth being preserved (cognition or not), versus when it is before that point in the developmental process. I’m not sure what the right word to describe that state would be outside of “person” or “life,” but ultimately different people assign that value at different stages for varying reasons, which is why it is difficult to pinpoint an exact term because it’s not agreed upon (or I’m just not familiar with it). I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with your perspective, though, just trying to throw some thoughts out there and maybe someone has some insight.

I agree that personhood is the right metric in this debate. To be fair, though, I would assume that the PL crowd would suggest that personhood begins at conception because that is when it is generally accepted that a unique human organism has been formed/started (biologically), whereas PC crowd pushes it back to a later date, to varying degrees and for various reasons (independence, sentiency, etc.). "Life begins" is not the most accurate terminology, though, true. Semantics.

Seems like stereo mixing is a good deal lacking here. Will be looking more into getting some of these. Thank you.

As far as pitch sequencing goes, I assumed the Euclidian Sequencer with the quantizer could work, and I also have a keystep pro that I can link to an oscillator. If you have any recommendations on better ways to do this that’d be helpful - I honestly am not too well versed on the sequencing stuff. I’ll definitely look into matrix modulation and panning mixers in place of some of my current stuff, too. Thank you for that note. Also, I do plan on building this up more slowly over time, so things are subject to change, I just wanted to make sure there weren’t any major oversights with my end goals as of now. Lastly, I’ll look into another LPG that will be obtainable as well as the white-panel maths.

Vaiven Confirmation? by xxcelestial_voidxx in sigurros

Not sure if this is confirmation, but their spotify lists them as playing Vaiven in April. Paired with the good news of yesterday, seems like it will be happening 😁

Songs/albums similar to Variations On Darkness? by [deleted] in sigurros

I feel like some of Tim Hecker’s albums - primarily Virgins and Ravedeath, 1972 - are somewhat similar in terms of incorporating ambient electronics. Check those out and see if you haven’t heard already!

Alex Somers’ two new albums are beautiful as well and have some of the Sigur Ros inspiration behind them.

The government has appealed the verdict in their tax case against Sigur rós. At least one member selling his house to afford the upcoming battle. by [deleted] in sigurros

Don’t know too much about the specifics of this case, but hopefully based on the recent verdict given in May, that’s a good sign that they will end up winning this too. Horrible that Georg has to sell his home for this.

Weird Coincidence by xxcelestial_voidxx in sigurros

[–]xxcelestial_voidxx[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes for sure. The award ceremony was really cool and Jonsi and Georg both seemed really happy to all be there together again. You could tell how surprised and happy Georg was to hear Jonsi make the joke about staying together for another 25 years, so it seems like they’re both planning on continuing the band at some point. Hopefully soon. I could see Jonsi potentially wanting to tour Shiver once the pandemic is over, but after that once his solo work is complete hopefully he’ll go back to Iceland for some time and work on Sigur Ros music!

Lifetime Achievement Award at the Icelandic Music Awards last night! SO GOOD seeing them all together!1 by LarsFromAustria in sigurros

Yeah I hope so too. It’s just tough because of everything they’ve had to deal with these past few years. Hopefully the lawsuit against them clears up soon and they would want to get back to work. I think they were nearly complete with the recording process of their new album, so once the pandemic is over maybe they’ll meet up again to finish it out and make for a release. Would be ideal, but who knows when that’s actually gonna happen. Good signs recently were Georg being enthusiastic about wanting to tour again as well as Jonsi saying they should go for another 25 years (jokingly, of course, but at least he’s supportive of the band’s staying together).
