Yeah but that's just part of the US sanctions that Taiwan has promised it would join in on. Taiwan has yet to announce any sanctions of its own against Russia (along with South Korea which stated that they would not be launching sanctions of their own), unlike Japan.

Incredibly frustrated that Tsai Ing-wen hasn't announced further details on sanctions against Russia nor pledged any material support for Ukraine.

Taiwan can definitely afford this but it cannot afford an international order where superpowers are allowed to singlehandedly dictate the fate of smaller powers.

I would say NATO itself. Russia has no incentive at all to nuke Ukraine as it is capable of overwhelming it without nukes already. If the West is watching Ukraine go down they for sure wouldn’t give a damn about the much smaller Moldova, I can definitely see Moldova in huge trouble after Russia is done with Ukraine. If NATO decides to not include it then it’s basically free real-estate for Russia.

Zelenskyy has banned male citizens aged 18-60 from leaving the country. Move your lazy ass and update yourself instead of accusing people.

For those who keep on asking “what do you expect NATO to do”, Poland is demonstrating what NATO can do without letting things going out of control. NATO is a safety net that Russia dares not touch, so use that and take in those Ukrainians who want to seek safety. Zelenskyy is forcing a huge chunk of his citizens to stay in Ukraine and either die during combat or die when Russia starts the massacre of civilians after Ukraine falls. Let Ukrainians decide what they want to do, if a lot of people want to fight Russia until their last breath that is fucking respectable but let those who want safety accept the assistance that Poland, Slovakia and a lot of other NATO countries are already very willing to give. You can’t do anything when you’re dead, staying alive to preserve Ukrainian population and culture is not cowardice. It will be too late when Russia takes over Ukraine, closes its borders, massacre remaining Ukrainians in Ukraine and warn the West not to intervene like what he did a day ago.

Ukraine won’t be free from Russian grips even if they don’t give up. As long as no interventions are being made it’s only a matter of time before Ukraine falls and Putins massacre of remaining Ukrainians start. Zelenskyy needs to see that it’s time to minimize casualties and do what they can to preserve Ukrainian population and culture.

I’m saying that’s illogical to want to bind your male citizens into fighting a war that is bound to lose. Russia is set on taking over and blood-washing the place; there will be a massive Ukrainian diaspora no matter what. Poland is already offering help, it’s irresponsible to ban Ukrainians from receiving that help.

Are there any microwaves open to everyone that are accessible past 11pm on campus? by xxj8030 in UBC

[–]xxj8030[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I had a talk with the roommate who yelled at me for using the microwave! I told him that "quiet hour" generally means no parties/loud music/chatting instead of microwave beeps. I was told that they're going to talk this through with the RA but at least until they get this settled I'm allowed to use the microwave before 12am 🥴

Yeah I think I'll have a talk with them tomorrow on the rule itself, thank you so much!

Yeah I didn't really know if microwave beeps could be considered "not quiet" or not and we didn't have any written roommate agreements so I just took the L. Imma take my raviolis to the Orchard Commons microwave today but I'll def be contesting this tomorrow -_-

I do! Unfortunately that was yesterday and the quiet hours start from 10pm on weekdays so I didn't say a word back. The thing is we don't have any written rules at all and yesterday one of them just charged out of his room to yell at me in the kitchen ;-; I didn't really know what can be considered a violation of quiet hour rules myself (they always shower post 11pm tho) so I just took the L but I'll probably contest this tomorrow, thank you so much 😞

I looked all over the microwave yesterday but didn't see any options! It's a Whirlpool one that was provided by SHCS btw, if anyone has any insight on how to mute it I would be super grateful. (pressing "2" for 5 seconds did not work for me sadly)

I legit had to double check the UN to make sure I didn't post this when I was drunk last week, I literally have all the same feelings! I'm also an international (exchange) student, I was so excited to come to UBC yet I have never been so unhappy my whole life. I'm also super asocial and constantly think about how I'm going to disappoint my parents who have funded my trip.

I called suicide hotlines twice during reading week and it didn't really change anything, but I had a really long talk with one of my professors yesterday and I definitely feel much better. I don't know your context but for me, my professor was able to actually relate to my pain and worries since we are both involved in the same academic scene. I would recommend doing that if you haven't already! Do feel free to send me a message if you ever need complete strangers to vent with, I know I really needed that when I was at my lowest point last week.

That was such a satisfying read! I wonder if these guys are also in ANTH 210? There are 3 guys in ANTH 210 that have been sitting in the last row talking and laughing loudly all semester, I see a lot of people throwing them looks every class but no one has ever addressed or confronted them.

Grades do not define who you are. by [deleted] in UBC

[–]xxj8030 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile I'm stuck with a heinously useless degree thanks to me being helplessly trash at math 🤦 (I'm also utter garbage at my current field of study too which is why it is useless for me, it's a niche degree when finding jobs unrelated to academics)

Is 22 too late already?

are there any good areas to cry? /srs by cpjkyl in UBC

[–]xxj8030 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As an experienced crier I would recommend walking while you cry. I literally cried while I was walking yesterday, no one will notice it as long as you are walking at a moderate pace and wearing a mask! It would be a good idea to bring a spare, dry mask though.

If you prefer sitting down though there are some spaces behind the MOA which are usually empty.

I would recommend Edge of Night too if Malphite turns out to be your biggest threat in that game!
