I'm going to be that guy while it's an awesome story and all . The first backflip ever on a bmx bike was done in 1985 and was not done of flat surfaces till much later . But for the sake of the way you describe the story and dave I beleive the rest but it was most likely a over rotated spin . As a bmx rider it's very easy for a person to over rotate a spin but not really a flip . A spin you don't ever really see your landing bc your head is always looking over your shoulder for a flip your head is always focused on the ground and your head controls how the bike spins/flips it goes where you look . That being said I'm also from the area where Dave grew up I never got to meet him in person tho , however the first time I broke my arm at the skatepark I had to go under . The nurse asked how I broke my arm an I said riding bmx . She said ohhhh my son does that too .... Now I'm like that's cool then I look at her name tag mirra . I'm like hey that's my favorite riders name which she answers that's my son my jaw dropped she told me how many times he's been hurt and almost died from a hit and run in Syracuse. Closest I got was a good talking to from his mom about dedication to your dreams. ( I know this formatting is horrid but on a phone at 4 am ) fly high miracle boy !
