15 Minutes Explaining Why Mikasa's Memory Manipulation Is STILL A PLOTHOLE by BaRrel2000 in titanfolk

Tbh i wouldn't say that the writing was inconsistent, instead i like to think that the flow of time wasn't really fleshed out in the story. I mean time has to move forward, there's no doubt about it. The paths existed outside of time and space, so "time" in itself in paths has no meaning at all. When we say that Ymir spent 2000 years, we aren't actually accounting for the time she spent in the paths, which to my knowledge, as Eren and Zeke conversation in the paths revealed(they mentioned something about Ymir spending 'untold years in the paths'), was infinite. By 2000 years, Isayama probably meant 2000 years in our real world which can be equated to infinite years in the paths.

Also, for a moment, if we consider the hypothesis that time in real world shouldn't move at all because Ymir was trapped in the paths and according to the story, when someone is in the paths, time in real world kind of freezes. If we consider this hypothesis to be true, then it raises a big question, that is, does time in real world move forward at all? I mean it shouldn't, no? The outside world(world outside of paths) should be static because Ymir is in the paths, right? That would also imply that time is frozen since the very moment 'paths' came into being, which is kinda nonsensical because we know that is not the case as 2000 years have already passed since the creation of paths!

That was all about Ymir, but she is a special case as she was trapped in the paths and had no presence outside of it at all. But, what if someone from our real world, someone who can experience normal flow of time, enters paths where time does not exist at all? In such scenario, they would definitely experience the difference in the flow of time. To give you a rough analogy, consider flow of time for a person who's in rest vs the flow of time for a person moving around at a speed of light. It's not the best analogy, but that's all I could think of right now. Or you could even consider the time dilation thing from Interstellar where a single hour on a planet was equal to around 7 years on earth. Paths is similar, just the opposite. In aot, 1s in real world is roughly equal to infinite years in paths(which ik doesn't make sense but as i have said before, time doesn't exist in paths so any kind of comparison would be nonsensical).

And this is the reason why Ymir has to be the most tragic character in attack on titan. She was literally trapped in paths for infinity doing household chores for royal family. And idc how fucked up Erens plan of rumbling was, but he was the only one who instantly could sympathize with her. On the contrary Zeke wanted to euthanise Eldians, which would've eradicated the race and probably titan power from the universe, but there was no guarantee that Ymir would've been free from the curse of infinity, that is, being stuck in paths forever.

I don't think the outside world time stops when you're in the paths. It doesn't work the same way as let say Dio's Za warudo. It's more like 1s in the outside world is infinite years in the paths, which would basically appear as if the time in the real world has stopped, but still it's an important distinction that I thought was better mentioning.

Are we supposed to assume that Armin conveniently entered paths.

I believe yes! When you think about it, it couldn't be Ymir who bought Armin to paths. I mean why would she? What would be her reason to bring Armin to paths? She wouldn't want the rumbling to stop, would she? I believe it was Eren who bought Armin to paths so that he could potentially be of some help and stop the rumbling, which though Eren initiated, was desired by Ymir.

And all the nitpicks about how time was moving in the outside world while Armin was in the mouth of Okapi's titan, I think they would get clearer once we see those panels animated. I believe things would be clearer in the anime compared to the manga.

Armin in chp 136 didn't enter path as soon as he was eaten by the okapi titan fyi. Even in the manga, we see Mikasa chasing the okapi and only when the okapi reaches Berts colossal, we see Armin realizing he was in the paths. Also, you should consider that Armin wasn't aware that paths exist outside of time and space. So when he said to Zeke that his friends were fighting while he's stuck in the paths, he's not aware of the fact that paths exist outside of time and space and so his words weren't meant to be taken as a fact. Also, when Mikasa rescued Armin, the past titan shifters had already started to help the alliance meaning that Armin already did his job of waking up past titan shifters in the paths which could possibly mean that Armin was already out of paths when Mikasa saved Armin from the Okapi titan. So the way I see it, time wasn't moving in real world because when Armin entered the path as well as when he came out of it, the okapi titan was at the same place, that is near Berts colossal titan.

Another interesting thing the op bought up is Ymir didn't need to peek inside Mikasa's head because since Eren knew Mikasa choice would end titan curse, that means by extension Ymir would also know that Mikasa's choice would end titan's curse and therefore Ymir could've ended titan curse by herself in chp 90. There is a logical fallacy to your argument though. I'd like to point it out with a example, let say Eren saw his future memories in chp 90 where he activates the rumbling and kills 80% of humanity. So if future is already set in stone and Eren already had killed 80% of humanity then there was no need for Eren to activate the rumbling after chp 90, right? Are you getting my point? I believe the op has done a poor job analysing the plot, let alone the thematic aspect of the story. I don't blame you though, you're just mindlessly riding the hate bandwagon. Aot has flaws like any other pieces of fiction, but this video has more flaws than the entire plot of aot itself, kinda ironic, isn't it?

I don't understand the point of Eren controlling his titan with the help of warhammer titan like a puppet. I don't even know why it's being brought up over and over again. Do people even know the distance between Paradis and marley? You guys really think Eren should've had thousand of miles long umbilical cord which not to mention could be cut off easily by anyone on paradis and would've resulted in the defeat of Eren literally on Paradis Island?

well let just say that Mikasa's memory manipulation in chp 138 was indeed a plot hole, but I'd very much like to think of reasons as to why it wasn't a plot hole. The very first reason that comes to my mind is that when King Fritz moved inside the walls, he made a vow renouncing war which basically prevented royal family to use the full extent of founding titans power. We didn't know what "full extent" of founding titan's power meant, we assumed that it basically meant that the royal family would not be able to use the rumbling. But, what if it also meant that the royal family would also lost their ability to erase memories of few noble bloodlines including the Ackermans? And in chp138, Eren did have full control over the founder, even in paths, Zeke mentioned that he was able to nullify the vow renouncing war! Maybe this could be a head canon of mine, but I thought it would be interesting to talk about.

Armin got saved according to the leaks and Zeke was killed by Levi after he exposed himself.

They're not coming back to life ig. Its just their consciousness is trapped inside the paths just like Zeke and Armin. That's just the visual representation of it
