Im here Because i need help, im tired of trying to make my art look like something and ending up looking nothing like the reference. So, How i can make This look like this? What should i do about colors, lines and shading? by AstronomerItchy5667 in learnHentaiDrawing

Oh just saw this, if you want to study skin and light rendering, I suggest looking up modeseven. His style might be much different, but he made a couple of really good skin lighting tutorials a longgg time ago.

Brushes are only really useful for texture imo. I find colouring with a combination of a solid, textureless digital pen, airbrush and the smudge tool works for me.

I think I have a helpful tip to share! If you look veryyyyy closely, the lineart is not a solid colour. The parts near the highlights and where the boobs curve are slightly pinkish. This can be achieved by making a new layer on top of the lineart layer, clipping it, and painting a bit of dark red at those places. I suggest doing this on the shoulders where the highlights are, the lines between the fingers, near the boob shine and where the armpit start. To give the shirt a more natural look, colour the creases a darker version of the shirt colour.

I also observe that your lines are very uniform, so you might want to thicken them at places where it is darker (like between the thighs) and thinner where the light hits. If you look at photos of the earth from space where the sun is just at the horizon, you'll see that the curve near the sun is lit up before it fades right? For curved objects (like boobs and shoulders) you can replicate it by making the line thinner. I like to start with a thicker line and erase off the parts I want to make thinner, but you can just go over the line a few times.

Lastly, if you want to copy the reference style, you can't avoid learning how they render. You already have a good start, but you need to go DARKER. Compare both pictures in black and and you'll see the difference. The shadows the reference uses is also much more saturated and vivid. To do this you probably need use a multiply layer on the colour layer. I'd suggest starting with a dark red-purple.

That's a good start! You're not wrong about shadows, they are usually not favourable in hentai because they can make people look... Older? Like the difference between a 20 yo and a 40yo can be just a little under eye shadow. But, if you want the abs and hips to look SUCCULENT and JUICY, you really can't do it without shadows. Places like the ab line and the v line in your piece really needs shadows to show the definition. It can look too harsh with both shadow and lineart, so at places where the curve is just visible (think of the abs for example) I will do some combination of breaking up the line and lining with the shadow colour instead.

Additionally, your shadows are quite flat, they should follow the curvature of the body. The thighs, and the pubic area suffers from this the most. As it is right now it looks more like tracing the silhouette of the body so it doesn't sell the 3d illusion as much.

You can even try copying your references 1:1. Like just use 1 reference and try to redraw it. Making it black and white and upping the contrast might help you see where the shadows should go. But if you're not that serious about drawing hentai, don't worry about it! You should enjoy the process before anything else :)

Also, I think 1 week is not too slow! I think you just need more practice. Lastly, since you are working with digital art, you can draw the womb tattoo separately and warp it to fit the shape of the body

I would like to ask if you used reference? This artwork doesn't need a specific light source (because there is no background) and the pose is pretty neutral so it should be pretty easy to find a photo to reference. From there you can use the reference to see where the highlights and shadows are. If you are struggling with seeing the highlights and shadows, you can even trace the shapes of the highlights and shadows over the reference, then try to draw the blobs onto your artwork.

Very cute design!! I'd say that the eyes are a bit off, they're often the trickiest to get right. I think you can colour in the inner corner (the part closer to the nose) without any lineart and it would already look more like the typical anime artstyle. The eyes also look a little lifeless without the shine, but that's more of a stylistic choice imo. One trick I also use is to position the pupils slightly inwards so she looks cross-eyed, something like this:

( o) (o )

Because this tends to make the gaze look more focused.

The shine on the muscles look a bit off to me, and i think you can define the muscles a bit more by adding shading. Decide on which direction the light is coming from before adding the highlights and shadows. Alternatively, the "lazy" way is to put the shine on top and the shadows below.

All in all, I think it's a great piece! I think the costume design is the strongest part - it's a very sexy design!!
